Cam McCormack & the TE Room

Agreed, it’s been invaluable having Cam in playing on offense. His blocking prowess alone is helping us with some big runs against Miami of Ohio. Then the catch Saturday versus A&M. I know he’s no Arroyo but if we can continue to keep him in games along with Arroyo, this passing attack could become even more deadly.

Gotta admit that I was not excited about the Cam transfer. Thankfully, I was absolutely wrong.

Mario’s eye for talent is elite. He knows exactly what this team needs to look like and the type of player(s) we need. If he continues to get “A-quality” performance from his coordinators, the sky is the limit.

Old man Cam has been amazing. It doesn’t always get picked up in the grand scheme of things but I don’t think he’s missed or failed one blocking assignment all season
His catch was big because he was open a few more times but TVD is just starting to build up trust that Can will make the catch. If he can catch 2-3 passes a game we are in great shape.

That play was cool for a few reasons.

First, it was a big play and a big pass. It challenged the (false) notion that TVD is a one read QB. He’s not and never has been.

Second, one thing we were talking about is does Cam coming into the game create too much of an obvious run situation? He won’t be a pass target like Mallory was but we also can’t just telegraph it every time and that gave teams something to think about

Most people on this forum didn't want him.

A select few truly sage posters understood why he was a need and wanted one of him on the roster.

Please also see the recent posts talking about Alonzo Highsmith helping build a roster. Most NFL teams have a Cam McCormick type on their roster. For some that don't, maybe its still the archaic but always fun throwback of a fullback...or its the positionless type that usually gets called an H-Back and thats just scheme related. But its a guy that dresses out with the 48 every game and plays just as much as a starter in certain games depending on the packages and being an exceptional blocker and special teams guy is probably a significant portion of those types. Even if he's a one trick pony, its a very very very important, playable trick.

When our run game hums, he is and will be vital catalyst to that happening.

When Lashlee was here, we didn't really have this type of guy...we ended up putting OL out there, which kind of defeats the purpose...but its all we had. We had Mammerelli, but he was oft injured and was more of a special teams level player. Brantley, too...but having a Mamm and Brantley both on the roster kind of shows you that the previous roster makers didn't really have a vision.

He seemed like a meh transfer this off season but he has been awesome. Surprised at how much he's playing and contributing. Need the younger guys to step up with him.

a blocking TE who can still get out there and be *somewhat* of a receiving threat is a really valuable player to have. unheralded role but one of those guys you don't know you need until he's keeping the chains moving on the ground and in the air. once arroyo is back and up to speed cam will be even more of a luxury, and i hope we throw a couple 2TE sets into the mix.

He’s flexed out wide in the picture , can’t see him.
Do you think we see Arroyo or skinner out on the field tomorrow ?

Same can be asked for C. Smith, B. Deen, M Fletcher

I know Kinchens/Mesidor will be out
