Yes, & I told everyone then we had no shot despite “the smoke.” I know “some” ppl on this board think I’m this conspiracy theorist, Nike fanboy b/c I’ve been advocating a switch, but there’s always been a reason y.

As Nike has shifted its focus to be more of an athletic brand once again vs. lifestyle brand (although they’ll still be in that arena, too), they began becoming heavy NIL centric. The closest u’ll find to a Nike NIL athlete committing to an Adidas branded school r Ace Bailey & Dylan Harper going to Rutgers. The caveat? Rutgers didn’t have an Adidas contract; they were on a discounted equipment provider deal which meant Ace, Dylan, & others could wear whatever sneaker they wanted to on court which they did. The following yr as reported by urs truly, Rutgers officially became a Nike school.

There’s levels to this; u will not find any Nike NIL athlete at any branded school other than Nike or Jordan.

I can go on & on & on & on. I told this board what will eventually happen; Adidas allows their NIL athletes to attend other schools, which doesn’t help us at all.

Adidas allows their NIL athletes to go other branded schools, so does NB….Nike doesn’t. It’s part of the stipulations b/c they’ll be fully marketed by Nike. It’s kinda hard to market a player in their rivals equipment.

Nike looks at today & tomorrow w their NIL, while Adidas & NB only focuses on tomorrow. Hence Nike took a shot at NB w Cooper w a tagline “powered by Nike” & NB’s rebuttal was you may have him today, but we’ll have him forever. (Paraphrasing)

So it’s best we focus on others.

These portal QBs and a high caliber D-end ain’t cheap. Plus, we are likely spending a lot on retention- Fletcher, Bell, Moten, etc. Plus, guys like Toney and Fitzgerald will need big time raises. We can’t have it all

They have the money. They paid beck and these DBs last year and that wasn’t cheap. On top of keeping our own guys and being willing to pay singleton who price was 1mil
 
Coleman can come to Miami if he wants too. Nike legally can’t stop him from going wherever he wants. No shoe brand that has signed college athletes to nil can stop them from going wherever they want. Now I’m sure they push them to certain schools but if the player really wanted to go somewhere it’s nothing they could do

And yet, sounds like UM will cut out the competition to reup with Adidas, knowing full well that will eliminate the possibility of some of the best talent out there from possibly/seriously considering Miami.

But quick question - why did we even allow Branch brothers to visit if the dealbreaker was already in effect? Or were they not signed by Nike at the time?
 
how much is nike really paying a kid like this? is he locked into some iron-clad contract that says he can only go to nike schools or they stop paying him and he cant get out of his deal to go to adidas? i struggle to believe that

Nike is like a US geopolitical think tank. It plans for stuff like this years in advance and other companies follow them and haven’t been able to catch up.
When we were at the top of cfb Nike became the first major shoe brand to supply a school with their gear.

When the playoffs started I saw this coming from a mile away. There’s a reason why the majority of cfb participants are Nike schools. It’s free publicity for them. Look at the Nike playoff teams that are in now. Only Miami, Tamu, and Indiana are Nike. Yes even Jmu and Tulane are Nike.
13 teams in the sec are Nike. Only Tamu and Tennessee are adidas. South Carolina switching to Nike in 2026.

The writing for Miami was on the wall when they dropped Nike. I knew right then that Nike did not see Miami as a sound investment and saw that we weren’t getting the players worth their money because we weren’t gonna be playing any post season ball that would get them free publicity. They were right because they have people everywhere watching and listening to what’s going on. They knew Miami had fallen behind big time in recruiting big time players.

And if I’m not mistaken, the only non Nike school to win a natty since 2000 has been Auburn.

Now that they can sign high schoolers, Nike is gonna fight tooth and nail to help the best talent go to Nike schools.
Adidas doesn’t have the muscle to tell a kid he can’t go to a Nike school.
Look at all the playoff teams and natty winners that are Nike branded. Compared to adidas.
How are you gonna tell J smith he can only go to an adidas school? You can’t.
But Nike can.


Our president and AD better be doing everything they can to get tf out this adidas bs.
 
He isn't worth this kind of money, particularly. We have young talent. Their are other veteran's that will have his production for much less. Are those Texas schools all Nike schools? They can pay over $2 million for him. I am back to Nick Marsh.

Do you know whether contractually the athlete can be penalized if he were to transfer to an Adidas school (clawback NIL paid out already) or would they just void the contract?
