the fixation with this kid is weird, seems like we never really wanted him that bad.
We did. We just weren't willing to play games to get him.

Actually Miami has/had a competitive track team .If he THINKS he's a basketball player that makes me question his judgement even more. He's not ranked by a single service. I looked at 247 and Rivals and he's not listed.
I guess you can say Syracuse is a top basketball program but they were 14-19 last year.
At least Jasen Lopez is ranked as a 3 star in basketball. Compare him to Cantwell who is the #1 shot putter in America. He's giving that up to focus on a sport where he can have lucrative future.
Actually, you are pretty much wrong on that. Playing multiple sports that require you to use your body in different ways is better for you and would reduce your chance for injuries such as this.I wish the kid well but maybe this is why hopping up and down on the hard court for 12 weeks wasn't the best idea. Seems he would have been better served training his body for football.

I remember we were on the verge of breaking records with Moss an Hill even almost qualifying for Olympic trials and NCAA championships.
The women over the years were awesome.
Who cares if we don’t have a full track team would that hold back for Cantwell from participating in shot put and discus?
I'm pretty much sure that the prespring strength and nutrition program freshman go through is massively important in preparing their bodies for the rigors of P4 college football, especially the SoFla kids who have gone without such benefits.Actually, you are pretty much wrong on that. Is RugbyGuy their S&C coach?
He got caught installing EMF pumps near the 49ers practice facilityWhatever happened to that guy?
Is he still assistant athletic trainer for the Vassar intramural Quidditch team?
In all sincerity, that sucks. I was looking forward to seeing if this kid had any juice.I wish the kid well but maybe this is why hopping up and down on the hard court for 12 weeks wasn't the best idea. Seems he would have been better served training his body for football.
Well I don't care to get into a discussion with everyone about the science of it, but countless studies have shown that kids that overwork their bodies in the same sport year round are at a higher risk to serious injuries like ACL and Achillies than athletes that play multiple sports year round and work their bodies and muscles in different ways.I'm pretty much sure that the prespring strength and nutrition program freshman go through is massively important in preparing their bodies for the rigors of P4 college football, especially the SoFla kids who have gone without such benefits.
Did playing basketball increase his risk for injury? No.
Did not going through the football specific off-season program increase his risk for injury? Yes.

Despite all that, injuring your Achillies in that way is a fluke injury that is rare. A few extra weeks of conditioning was not going to change that outcome for him.
A bigger concern would be his HS coaches and how hard they work him in practice because if they have babied him then his body is not ready for anything important. Based on how his recruitment went and some of the comments I heard from him and his family, and him not picking Miami most likely after watching how they practice I would assume that was more the case and more of a factor in what happened to him. Picking Cuse seemed to me like a kid that wants to be the man and not challenged in practice and less to do with the NIL number they threw at him.
Just my thoughts.
