Cal vs Oregon

WTF was that shotgun snap with 2 seconds left? On your own 2-yard line?

Huh?

The more I watch Mario's teams, the less I want Mario here. 2 seconds left in the game and the ball is on your own 3 yard line. Instead of a snap under center in the victory formation, they snap to the QB 3 yards deep in their own end zone. I realize they are in a victory-ish style formation there, but the chances of a bad snap and a Cal defender falling on the ball are just so much higher. Such a stupid risk to take.

You mad guy? Lol. We can just say not worth the money and it’s good.
I still think Mario is a good fit if he has the right staff around him.

HC: Cristobal
OL: Mirabal
QB/OC: Dorsey
RB/OC: Ponce
WR: Likens

I think this was a decent win for his team. He was able to finish in almost the exact scenario he couldnt against Stanford. We'll see if his team improves as teams usually do with good HCs.

A remotely competent Cal QB beats Oregon by double digits tonight. That said, a remotely competent Oregon QB does the same + an addl TD. At least it was an exciting finish to a garbage game and I got my Beth Mowins fill for the year. Put her back on ice for at least 12 months, por favor.

We need a commission to bring a quality staff together and get people back to caring and into building infrastructure. Get our student architects involved... make it fun. build satelite stuff all over SoFL.

Would not surprise me if the reason was ”we‘re more experienced snapping the ball out of the shotgun than under center.”

Really seems like the Oregon plan is to play it super safe.

Schiano got that 8-year contract though to just be mediocre at Rutgers. The buyout isn't bad for him though, just a question of if he wants to leave a comfortable spot making 4M a year. I love Stoops, but yeah the man is making bank there in UK and it will be hard to match that. He is in a similar spot to Schiano.

I was thinking of the idea the other day of the possibility of getting Ed O as ASST. HC/DL and Joe Brady as HC. Reconnecting the two with Brady coming back being the head honcho, and Ed O dominating the recruiting trail as a DL coach. Either them two or Tom Herman and Ed O same role as it would be with Brady.

Either way, I would love to have Ed O back in Miami in any capacity.

Now that is actually one of the more plausible ideas. Ed O doesn't seem to have an issue with taking a coordinator role to his former coordinators. He and Lane Kiffin swapped jobs before. Now wouldn't that be something, Kiffin and Ed O paired up again... you could do something like that if you took that 10-12 million supposedly set aside for Cristobals buyout and used it for the staff. Kiffin and Ed O have a huge amount of respect for each other and I think O wouldnt hesitate to take a two year gig at UM as a DC for Kiffin while LSU pays his 20+ million dollar buyout)

Kiffin isn’t leaving Ole Miss. Besides, he has a buyout too, and it’s probably healthy given he just signed an extension in Januar.

Ed O‘s baggage from his Miami days was 20 years ago, but I don’t think The U would consider him.

He's very Butch Davis-esque. Which is the reason I want him but he aint worth the price tag.

They’re all better than where we’re at. I can’t imagine Gruden being interested or the BOT hiring him right now.

Right now? You are correct. But I think Gruden might listen in January after everything has finally blown over. I assume he doesn't want to permanently end his professional career in exile and shame. I hope he gets another chance as I think he got a raw deal. I have no issue with a guy like Paterno being scrubbed from history for his actions, but getting run out of town for emails from over a decade ago is a little ridiculous.

I'll still take him. That's a silly reason to not want a coach.

I know you’re unhappy about that but I thought some of the emails were in 2018 as well??? Either way, I’m not certain that our BOT would hire him with that out there. Just like I’d love Hugh Freeze but don’t see it on our end even though I believe our BOT can use Liberty U as cover now. Maybe something changes internally and they actually decide to make a good football decision finally.

Napier
Freeze
Herman

Are 3 great options for the task of what we need to become a competitive team.

There are coaches that aren’t former Canes or don’t have any connection to Miami who are actually good, I know that’s a shock to this board but I swear, it’s not illegal to hire someone who isn’t connected to the program...

I disagree... Kiffin doesn't strike me as a guy like Stoops who is happy to have a decent team every few years and make a ton of money with little pressure. He wants to prove that he is a great coach who wins championships. Now if you think he wouldn't come to UM because he wouldn't think it's as good a job as some of us think it is , you might be right. But if you are saying he won't leave Ole Miss because he just loves being in the SEC, I think you are wrong. As for his buyout it hasn't been disclosed. I don't think it's as high as Cristobals but I can't say for sure. If it is high then he's off the list. It's all about opportunity costs. You can do a **** of a lot with 12 million extra. In that case, just hire Herman at 3 mil per year to start (Texas pays the rest) and give him 9 mil to hire the best coordinators in the country.
