Bye Bye Corstal? ACC Possibly Moving Toward Eliminating Divisions

The sec is going to have to do this also with OU and UT coming in. How could they realign that unless Alabama and Auburn move to the East and UT OU stay in the West.
Put OU in the East. I know geographically it makes no sense. But this way you’ve already got the Red River Rivalry in the protected cross division game. Also eliminates LSU, Alabama and Oklahoma ruining the conference’s chances of multiple playoff teams.

I like it. The CCG is **** on a bull when the 2 best teams can't battle it out for the playoff. The Big 12 have been the only ones getting it right and only because they have actually been the Big 12-2.

When the playoff goes to 8 soon you simply can't afford to play a meaningless CCG.

So if the ACC does this do u really think our schedule is going to be favorable? This conference has always tried to ***** us and this would be an easy way. Rule no.1 don’t believe in coincidences. As soon as we get serious about football and are gonna win the Coastal EVERY year here they come. And then all we have to do is beat one team in the championship game and it’s off to the playoffs if we have one loss or less….this is bad for us.

So you're fine with playing the Corstal every year, FSU from the Atlantic, and then a rotational opponent as well from that side, but you're not OK with playing more teams from the current Atlantic division?

You said we got serious about football and are gonna win the Corstal every year. So you're OK with playing UNC (who is recruiting at the highest level in the ACC right now), VT, GT, Duke, UVA and Pitt, but you're scared to play Wake, NC State, Clemson, Boston College, Syracuse, and Louisville more often?

Well the last time the ACC went without divisions we were in the de facto championship game against Virginia tech. But Brock and sonoris could not connect on the same crossing route 2 times in a row (really seems like one of the only plays ran all game).

But in all seriousness I don't like it. I would prefer that they just made conference championship games more important and make everyone have to play them.

I know that twice the SEC has had an all SEC national championship game where the team that didn't win the conference won. But I don't care.

She can't win your conference you don't deserve to be in the playoff. This best team nonsense is dumb and arbitrary. Was it 2 weeks after Michigan State beat Michigan that the committee ranked Michigan higher? That's total nonsense.

Or Ohio State always beaten up on a bunch of nobodys and people saying that they should be ranked extra high versus other teams who are winning against competition? How come when Miami beats Savannah states by 77 points they're not talking about how great we are?

By their criteria really you should have a six lost team that comes on hot and should have as legitimate as shot at a 4 playoff as anybody else.

Their criteria really is just a set of guidelines because there's not automatic eliminating factors that prevent them from considering teams over others.

It would be nice if the playoff committee functioned as a guiding point for the BCS. Like if Oklahoma or Nebraska gets completely blown out in the conference championship game then they don't advance to the national championship. Or if there's controversy between Miami and Florida State to get in the championship game there becomes the stronger human influence.
I can see what you're saying and I think the closest we can ever get to the most objective format possible would be this:

-8 team playoff. 5 conf champ autobids/3 at-large bids determined by the committee (possibly a G5 autobid from the 3 at-large if they clear some benchmark like being ranked in the top 8)

-Division-less conferences that preserve rivalry games but at least use some sort of scheduling formula to try to balance strength/difficultly of overall schedule.

Obviously we can still get screwed schedule-wise even with a formula/algorithm and the SEC would initially still be favored for those at-large bids but I still think this at least takes steps toward more objectivity and less subjectivity and wouldn't dilute the postseason with 12 or 16 teams while making the conference championship games more important than ever.

Id say give Notre Dame an ultimatum that they're either all in or they're completely out...buuuut the ACC for whatever reason enjoys being the sub in this theoretical BSDM relationship

I love this. You should only play 1 team, then rotate the rest every two years imo.

Yeah not everything is about us. Its still the ACC. We still add Syracus, WF, BC etc in addition to Clemson. We already play FSU. Clemson is the one it gets tougher on as they now have to play us more often as well as well recruiting UNC. And i see us, UNC and Clemson as the ACC power moving forward.

I wonder how much stadium attendance played in this decision. Playing the exact same teams every year got old quickly. Now, you can get fans more engaged by having new matchups every year. This may be a bigger deal in the SEC and Big 10, than the ACC. Other than Clemson and FSU (who we already play every year) none of the other teams from the Atlantic are that exciting.

Agreed. Time to leave those fvcker out in the COLD and make them make a move.
One of the ancillary reasons that I'm a big proponent of the 8 team playoff with conf champ autobids. Make those clowns sweat over getting the possible single at-large bid that's left over after the SEC gets two of them or a G5 team grabs one.

They should remove divisions, it's stupid. We had a billon chances to run or win the Coastal and we fooked it up every time. This will be different with the new staff.

So how many conference games will everyone play? How will it affect OOC games and cup cake games? Lots of questions to be answered. I’ve been impressed with Commissioner Phillips. He seems unafraid to speak his mind and put the ACC first.

I think the divisions hurt the conference, especially when divisions are down, like the Coastal has been almost its entire life. Instead of the two best teams you get lackluster ACCCG and I think that hurts the conference when Clemson is playing a 7-5 team in the conference championship game.

I still think the right way to do college football is to lock in conference bids to a playoff and shrink the number of teams down. At this point, there's really no reason to have anything other than the power 5 and maybe 1 other conference with two at large. I would really like to see a relegation style system as well.

Because they will 100% say "out" right now and then we will have cut off our nose to spite our face.

There will be a moment, when we are strong and they are weak, and then we will try to pounce. It's not now.

Definitely some questions to answer and the report card is out on Phillips but I already like that the dude has zero connection to the Carolinas and is taking a Rad-like approach where he's at least openly saying football is the monster that drives everything.
