By the Numbers Phil Jurkovec and D'Eriq King

Thanks for this. Those are nice numbers but didn't translate to college (at least in Enos system). Anyway just goes to show it really doesn't matter what your HS stats are. I think competition and system mean more.

But that’s actually the point of the post, it does matter what your high school stats were. Watson, Lawrence, and Burrow all eclipsed 10,000 yards as passers in high school. If we’re going to get where we want to be we’ve got to get an elite QB. My original post states that the other things - right system, good coaching, etc. - need to be in place.

Like I've been saying, wait for whichever USC QB enters the portal and get that one. Idk if it'll help us this yr, but IDGAF. Let Jarren and Nkosi leave. Start Martell. Then either Van Dyke or USC transfer

I figured it'd be a good time to take a quick look at the stats of some of the players being discussed on the board. Obviously, there are many other variables that stats can not account for, e.g., character, level of competition, mental toughness, maturity, coaching, compatible offensive system, etc., but past performance is often a good predictor of future performance and there is no question that today's college football requires elite QB play to win a national championship.

Here are stats for Phil Jurkovec and D'Eriq King. King is a long-long shot, maybe not even a possibility, but I've included his stats since he's being discussed on the board and because he has elite production as a QB.

Unless, they have major character concerns then we should take both QBs if we could get them. By comparison, no QB currently on our roster and no other QB who we are currently looking at in the portal has PJ's or D'Eriq's production in high school as both a passer and runner.

PJ threw for 8202 yards and only played half his junior year. He also rushed for 2942 yards in 34 high school football games. At ND this past season in mostly mop up duty, he was 12-15 (80%) for 222 yards for 2 TDs and no INTs playing behind Ian Brook. If you're going to take a transfer who can't play immediately, his production is the caliber we'd want in our QB room.

D'Eriq King has even better high school passing stats than PJ. He threw for 8719 yards, completed 66.3 percent of his passes, and he threw for 126 TDs. He also rushed for 2709 yards and 37 more TDs. In 2018 while playing at Houston, D'Eriq threw for 2982 yards and completed 63.5% of his passes. He also threw 36 TDs to only 6 INTs.

If we are going to compete for national titles, we must have an innovative OC who can also recruit an elite QB. PJ and D'Eriq would be a step in the right direction, but ultimately we need to bring in top or near top of their class QBs year after year just as Alabama, Clemson, Ohio States, etc. do.

Can we just stop with the grass is greener on the other side and bring in "fill in the blank" QB. Fix the offensive line & establish a running game and we'll be fine with the new offense.

Just ask Ryan Tannehill.

No. On the recruiting board we’re going to talk about the potential future talent that will make our Canes better. And I actually agree that we should fix the OL and establish a great ground game, but we’d also better get QB talent to match those teams that are frequently making the playoffs.

Future yes. Grad transfer no. Buuilding s program is a lot more than just throwing guys out there at QB and expecting a championship. We have athletic QBs that need to keep improving and some **** blocking would really help a lot.

By the way, TVD's measurables equate to DeSean Watson's high school measurables per Lance's talent evaluation database. Matocha is also athletic.
