He was playing CUSA opponents. It’s not like they were playing a murderers row schedule.

Miami fans wanted to fire Butch Davis for four of the five seasons he coached here. The original “fire the coach” banner that flew over the Orange Bowl said “From National Champs to National Chumps, Thanks Butch”. It was probably unfair at the time but we don’t usually have a fair fan base. There’s a favorable glow on Butch because his final season here was good and he built a good team but a majority of his tenure here he was very much disliked by the fans. He was seen as a goody-goody who the administration hired to clean up the program and erase the “bad boy” image at Miami.

Big ****. I help pay for that banner. That endless parade of 1st round picks and NFL HOF players changed my mind. Butch help recruit JJ's teams. Those players won three of our NCs, fact. Then he took the job here when nobody else would and found out why, worse NCAA penalties ever. Yeah we wanted him fired. Then goes to HC at NFL after getting screwed out of playing for NC and leaves us a NC team and another that gets cheated out of our 6th. Clearly we where wrong.

Eh, what Cristobal did at FIU is as impressive than what Butch has done there, if not moreso. Cristobal led them to their 1st winning season in school history while still under sanctions and won a conference title. Cristobal put FIU on the map.

Neither of the 2 kids in the draft were actually Bootch Davis recruits. The QB was a transfer and the WR was a Turner commit.

Cristobal had Cyprien and Hilton, who were 2nd and 3rd round picks, respectively.

If you want to whine about not getting a better coach, you are complaining about the wrong FIU guy.
