1996 vs. ECU - 31 - 6 (AT THE OB!)

1997 vs. FSU - 47-0

1998 vs. McNabb - 66-13

1999 vs. Vick - 43-10

Then what happened?
In 97, Butch was limited to 65 scholarship players due to NCAA sanctions.
Didn't reach full scholarships till 99.
What does Butch have to due with last nite?
Matter of fact, Butch beat Manures butt 2 years ago.
Weak post..

It's Not stars, it's Coaching & year to year development..
The talent level is higher under Manny than it has been in a long time. Our blue chip ratio is trending upwards just like it was under Butch (see below). You gotta give credit where credit is due.

Manny is clearly in over his head. But you can't judge the guy for losing against Bama. Everyone loses against Bama (last year they averaged 48+ points). I'm giving him until the end of the season to show improvement. If we win 10 games or 9 games, including a bowl win, and bring in another solid recruiting class, he will have earned a pass.

You can make the argument that Manny is following Butch's blueprint. Our freshmen and sophomores look legit. His recruiting schtick appears to be working. Let him fill the cupboard and then hand over the keys to Urban Meyer in early 2023 or 2024. Look at what Urban did with Zook's recruits.
Analogies from decades ago mean Zero to going forward.
If you're saying Manure is the next Butch,,Bull****.
Butch had Nat.Champ, and Super Bowl rings.
Not to mention being tutored by Jimmie Johnson..

Look, I'm not saying Diaz is the next Butch. I'm just saying let's not overreact after a blowout loss to a superpower of a team. Had we done that in 97, for example, when we lost 47-nil to a championship caliber FSU team--when we were 1-4--we would have never seen the greatest collection of talent any program has ever amassed at the same time.

All I'm saying is give him the rest of the season, and if he succeeds both on the field (for me, that means 10+ wins or 9 wins including a bowl win) AND he has another strong recruiting class (one that is mostly 4 and 5* plus fills positions of need such as DE and LB), then he will have earned another year, at least in my book.

If he continues to do that, we won't be getting blown out by the Clemsons and Bama's of the world in years 4 and 5, once Jake the Snake Garcia takes over.
I was at that game,97,
All the Nollies kept asking me, what's wrong with the Canes?
28 lost scholarships..

I dont want you to think your L was in vain. I did take note of your statement about @canedoit being a gator troll.

I just went back and looked at a few dozen of his posts over the past couple years. Im not seeing gator troll but I am seeing a worthless smartass. He'll stay on my radar for a while now, thanks to you. If he is who you say he is, I'll bring in "the closer" (@RVACane ) and we'll deal with your pest. Otherwise, simply ignore him.

As Bill Clinton famously said, "Never give a son of a bit.ch the power to make you look like a son of a bit.ch." :)
Oh, you sly devil. Don't go being equally worthless my brother

I can see you are a man of intelligence and pedigree. We have a lot of worthless smart assess and doom mongers such as problem 2, Svengali, Nickkane, dwinstitles, and Who. The list can go on and on. The fact is they are canes fans as much they ***** and moan. I don’t go after them. Now you occasionally get a dude like canedonit and you just know he is here for no good reason and may be a troll from another fan base. That’s where you will generally find me.

You slurpers keep saying we lost against Bama. No, we didn’t just lose, we got bent over and rapped in humiliating fashion whistle to whistle. Losing in a good effort is one thing. We looked like a high school team against the NFL.

I will say this. Manny is in Year 3. Let's have a look at well-regarded coaches and see what their worst loss was in Year 3.

Nick Saban (Year 3, Louisiana State)
Actually, he has two that I'll cite as they're pretty close.
0-31 defeat to Alabama (10-3)
7-31 defeat to Auburn (9-4)

Mack Brown (Year 3, Texas)
14-63 defeat to Oklahoma (13-0)

Bob Stoops (Year 3, Oklahoma)
10-20 defeat to Nebraska (11-2)

Pete Carroll (Year 3, USC)

31-34 defeat to California (8-6)

Urban Meyer (Year 3, Florida)
24-28 defeat to LSU (10-2)

Brian Kelley (Year 3, Notre Dame)
14-42 defeat to Alabama (13-1)

For Manny, we'll have to see:

1) Does Miami rebound from this game and put together a ten win season. They're perfectly capable of doing so. Talent-wise this is the best team - by far - on paper in 15 years. There are literally more than twice as many blue chips now as there was in 2012.

2) Where is Alabama on the spectrum of opponents? Did we just get blow out by the eventual national champions, as Mack Brown and Brian Kelly did? That will make this defeat - while still stinging in its magnitude and for some of the playcalling - somewhat more understandable.

To be fair, he did get blown out by UCLA and Florida State in 1995. That was prior to any sanctions. But that's an apples to orange situation - a first year head coach implementing a new system with players he did not recruit.

Sometimes, you just have to sit back and let people get things out of their system. Beat the crap out of App State and MSU and the tone will change. Lose and it will be 2015 all over again.

Erickson left him little in talent...especially at OL and QB....If Erickson left Butch 1/3 of what JJ left him...it would have been a completely different story....KC Jones was the best of what Erickson left...his recruiting from 92-94 was crap.

And saban lost to UL…and dabo was 6-7 his third year and got smoked by wv. Did I miss any other apt comparisons to our future N.C. and hof coach?
