I have long ago accepted the fact that Butch will NEVER become Miami's HC again as long as the current administration has anything to do with it.

I don't like how he left either.... but it seems that he must have done something else in addition to just leave to garner this much animosity from the administration before he left ??( Did he also sh*t ontop of their desks & **** in their coffee machines)

Oh whatever, I accept that he'll NEVER coach here again ....but however you feel about him, you gotta admit....he would have been a better choice to come here after he left the NFL than ALL of the numerous mediocre fill ins we've had in our recent past and including the present

I'm more than aware....I saw it up close for 6yrs...

Yes, you're very special.

Jfc. I've been on various CANES boards for 20+ years. They always, without ******* fail devolve into a venn diagram of cool guy/insider circle jerks/pileups, big internet balls tough guy callouts and crying circles about the greatness of a bygone era...

Would you ******* give it a rest already...you tired old *****?

Yeah... I didn’t find it.

I don’t own it.

I know nothing about it.

You mean remember when we had a REAL Coaching staff...and Elite players??...MFer...Dont mind if I do....

That's the thing.

It ****es them off that you were there, and knew those of the last real Miami Hurricane teams of greatness. They got ****.

So - **** and moan - deride, ridicule - however!

FIU - little FIU - led by Butch Davis - who they claim is all washed out - did in fact beat us like a rented mule.

Oh no - it was our own poor coaching . . . no! It was this or that, or the other.

Bottom line: He took what he HAD - and he beat us. Just like he used to do at UNC.

That's coaching.

is still a football GOD

Yup. Such a god he's in purgatory, also known as Florida International University—who's biggest win in history was knocking off an eventual 6-7 Miami team. A man we should all bow down to and fear.

Butch never should've left in January 2001—even if Miami foot-dragged and didn't have that contract ready, he was on the cusp of what could've been a decade-long successful run (fulfilling after he just spent six years rebuilding).

He also went to Cleveland—a franchise that has chewed up good coaches and top-rate talent for years.

Jimmy left for the Dallas Cowboys. Dennis left for Seattle and a return to the Pacific Northwest he hailed from. Even Howard left for what he thought was a lucrative USFL contract, at the time. Butch went to Cleveland.

Miami is also culpable for not acting sooner in 2006, or getting over being butt-hurt regarding Butch leaving.

Writing was on the wall with Larry Coker as far back as 2003—but by 2005, that 9-3 season and 40-3 pasting LSU put on the Canes in the Peach Bowl (which caused UM to force Coker to fire Werner, Soldinger, Kehoe, etc.—forcing that retread Olson on him as OC)—he was already a dead man walking in 2006.

Davis was available in 2006—but North Carolina snatched him up weeks before Miami officially parted was with Coker and settled on Shannon.

Rehiring Butch Davis was the answer in 2006—and I'd love to see a parallel universe where there was no wasted decade with Shannon and Golden. (Though one has to wonder how Nevin Shapiro would've still played into things as Davis probably wouldn't have tried to run him off like Shannon did, unsuccessfully. Davis also never had to coach under Donna Shalala as school president, which was a nightmare for football.)

The lack of jobs Davis received after North Carolina—no one touched him with a ten-foot pole, for a reason—and it makes total sense that he's at a forgettable FIU program these days. Ship has sailed on the old man; a never-was with a lot of regrets, I'm sure. Could've been Nick Saban-like if he never left in 2001.

You've posted this a few times.

Yeah, i'm old but there's nothing wrong with talking Hurricanes History.
I've posted as much about the late 70's seasons (not so great) as i have about the '01 season.
I think I do so without being over the top.

Even if i was over the top, who cares? If you do care, you have options, no?
Me?, I don't want to read only posts that are in the same line of my thinking.

Different opinions of other crazy bastids are what make this 'Cane discussion board world go 'round.

Manny then lisped back "Yeah but I still have the job you were never good enough to get back after lying to everyone and taking the money in football purgatory, even though you publicly pined for it after getting **** canned twice. How did that work out for you?"

exactly.

the guy is the worst POS on the planet. well, maybe not the worst, but he's is the ballpark.

I'm old too, and I agree there's nothing wrong with reminiscing about the glory days...but there are some folks on this and every other CANES board who's entire schtick is everything ******* sucks compared to "back in the day". YEAH NO ****! It's like a broken record.
