Butch Davis wants to get back into coaching

Butch built the greatest college football team EVER, I wouldn't mind seeing him and the new coordinators he brings in
 
ncaa punished us for stuff that happened under Howard(classiest coach we ever had), for stuff that happened under Dennis, for stuff that happened under Donna , she was the common denominator for all Nevins years. Butch adsorbed the punishment for another's failure and built yet another great Cane team(remember he was JJ's recruiter too). In building two Cane dynasties, Butch had no ncaa problems, Even Howard had violations, but not Butch. If you look clearly, NC had serious university academic problems that were not football caused. Butch did have some recruiting violations but they were an assistant. I am sure ncaa would have hung the Cane builder if it could have. While he was head coach I thought he had some defects, but since then we have come to learn what DEFECTS really are. It is silly to think the ncaa will look at us any harder because of Butch. Besides, losing the little money grubbing Donna great reduces the threat of future violations. Almost her entire tenure was one huge ncaa violation.
 
Does anyone have actual proof that he'd come "cheap"? I know that's the assumption but why would he take anything less than Alfred is getting? Not saying that it wouldn't be worth maintaining the current salary levels but if you guys think he'd come here for pennies on the dollar and then would use all that extra revenue to build some all-star staff then you might have another thing coming.

Even having to discuss this is an indictment of the brainwashing of a portion of our fanbase about how "poor" UM is. It's sad that we always have to consider if we could get a guy for 1/2 of the going rate that other schools are willing to pay. And even then it's soooo stupid on the administration's behalf. Ohhhh, let's save $2 mil per year on coach salaries but then lose that tenfold when we're mediocre for a decade...
 
Butch would bring us the #1 class in the country in 2016. we would win the Coastal next year under him too. make it happen with the quickness.
 
Our pussified BOT and administration won't even get near this guy.

I would streak for a year straight if we hired him. He had deficiencies but I think he'd have some of the best coordinators we could afford in board in a hurry. It would be a quick turnaround IMO.

But, Barry Jackson's BOT "sources" said that's essentially a pipe dream in one of his chatters last week I think. I pray they're wrong.
 
The people in the administration or BoT who don't like Butch are like the musicians on the deck of the rapidly sinking Titanic; satisfied in the cold comfort that they go to their football graves with a string of impressive moral victories.

Our admin doesn't pay close enough attention to college football to know whether Butch would be re-hirable or not. They're a bunch of mindless schmucks when it comes to this program.

Maybe if Butch would throw together a 300 page binder or a lengthy power point presentation to detail how he plans to bring Miami back, he would have a decent shot.
 
I won't hold my breath, but everyone here knows that he would be able to steer the defense in the right direction and by that I mean AGGRESSIVE AND ATTACKING! Go Canes!!!

You might be right. I bet if he applied as Paul Davis that it'd confuse them so much that he'd get real consideration. "This guy says he coached at UNC. He must be good!!! We let them and Dook run the ACC!!!"
 
Butch is the answer to all our questions.

The only problem with our administration is that they are bright in theory, but retarded in practice.

Slow, uninformed, biased, and rely on misplaced criteria.

Common sense isn't very common among intelligentsia.
 
Always liked Butch, learned a lot about him back in his Dallas days.
What I wonder though, is he the same guy from 95-00? Same fire, something to prove? Are we going to be here ****ed because his offense is conservative like we are about the current defense?
It's not the eye for talent but everything else.
Last gig he had at UNC he had a couple of good classes, out recruited a number of other ACC teams and had a number of guys drafted as you all know.
He was also 0-4 vs NCState, 1-3 vs Virginia (0-3 vs Groh), 1-3 vs GTech (1-2 vs PJ) and 1-3 vs VT.
Had a winning record against Miami and Duke going 7-1 though.
Yes it's premature as we're mid season but since everyone is talking Butch I thought i'd throw this out there. I have reservations about Butch now but if he's the guy eventually, I'd support him and hope his teams are exciting.
I just want someone that will allow Miami to compete for a playoff spot every year and be in the conversation.

We need to get over the past with Butch from his past UM days as well as NCAA we have recently experienced.
Lets get a whole new D staff...... Davis great hire, Leavitt would be great as well. need someone to save Al's butt
who resembles Dabo Swinney needs great OC/DC to make it happen

so were randy shannon, andreu swasey, and ton of other people at the school. the only person that knew that shapiro was a ponzi schemer was him until he got caught. **** post.
 
I really really do not see the fascination with Butch. He'd be better than Al but I bet we wouldn't win any championships in the immediate future under him. He's a ****** *** gameday Coach just like Gorlden.
 
I like Butch and always have but I have a honest question for those who really want him back....

How long will you give Butch? If he's producing 8-4 9-3 seasons after 2-3 years will it eventually turn back into a "fire butch"

I like Butch for 2 main reasons alone

1. Talent evaluation
2. Development of players
