With all respect, that academic mess was occurring when Butch was coaching in the NFL. It was embedded into that institution. It probably disheartened Butch and after 3 straight decades of coaching, he took a step back and collected his remaining contract monies.

In South Fl it's not about the kid...It's about the street agent / coach / cousin / brother / friend / uncle. Everyone knows about Butch Davis.

Facts. Big reason why Al Golden and staff can't close on certain kids from down here. We can't play that game. Recruits love this staff believe or not but there are certain things about recruiting that has changed. Especially with kids and sec schools.

Their parents and advisers know and appreciate who Butch Davis is. The adults down here think he walks on water, and when he flashes that portfolio of millionaires he produced, everyone will be fully on board.

The college team i put together won a championship the year after i left when they essentially coached themselves. I left because i clearly have no idea how to make solid career choices. Don't be mad because literally almost every single top player under Butch @ UNC was implicated in academic AND financial improprieties. But i'd only take Butch back if we had a compliance officer within 3 ft of him at all times.
