Butch Davis is 1-15 since cheating against Miami with fake injuries in Marlins stadium in 2019.

What accomplishments? He didn't win anything for us and many defending him now were mad at him for his gameday coaching back then.
Jeebus, were you around from 94-01? This program was almost dead. Erickson lost control and bailed and we got hammered with sanctions. Butch came in and righted the ship. Because he knew he had limited scholarships, he had to make sure every scholarship went to someone who could contribute. The result was the best CFB team ever to take the field. No, he didn't win a championship, but he also got screwed by the BCS and Coker went on to dominate the next year with a team that was effectively on cruise control. Once his players moved on, we went straight into the ******* and we've been swimming around this cesspool ever since.

Yes, there was a lot of frustration before 98, but rebuilds take time. That 5-6 97 season when the banner flew was followed by a 9-3 season with losses to #8 FSU, #21 Syracuse and VT. The difference between then and now is that we aren't losing to quality teams that are better than us, we're losing to mediocre teams who are better coached than us.

How many Butch haters are drooling for Cristobal with his enviable 27-47 record at FIU while bashing Butch for his 24-29 record?

Erickson deserves ALL the blame for what happened from 95 onward...Complete Lack of Institutional Control....Players out till 4am drinking day of game against Bama in 93...no curfew whatsoever....

Every single kid a Butch recruit....

Butch from 1997 and Manny from hire:
5-6/6-7. Disaster seasons.

9-3/8-3 the next year losing only to teams that finished ranked in the AP Poll.

Stumbled to 2-3/2-4 record out the gate the following season. Butch finished 9-4. Manny has won 3 straight.

I have absolutely no takeaways from this. Just noticed it from your post.

Butch completely destroyed three straight football teams since he left. All three were in shambles when he left or got fired.

Mario has fared far better since FIU.

You're not wrong. It's the same argument that's made when comparing to any number of other coaches. It's the main reason people tend to want 4 years to see. But do you honestly see the types of changes that inspire confidence or are they throw it against the wall and see what sticks? Linebacker recruiting has been awful, everyone can see that, but nothing done to address it.

Butch got lucky with the great generation of players that came through during his coaching tenure here.
Still he didn't win with them, it was Coker who coached us to the title game.
If he was this great talent evaluator like his cult like followers think why he hasn't replicated it anywhere else or since.
You bring up a fair point on his failures in Cleveland and FIU.

He wasn't too shabby at UNC and I think they would have continued to succeed had he stayed.

With that said, sometimes its hard to catch lightning in a bottle at multiple locations.

Do I think he would have been a better hire than Richt? Yes I do, but his time to start afresh has passed.

Why porsters continue to try and land body blows (more than teasing) on the man escapes me. I feel the same about Ericson, Shannon, and Coker (Golden not so much).

They tried to succeed under the weight of Miami's past and came up short, yet all of them had a hand in our Canes glory.

Butch DAW GAWD...say it with blasphemers and heathens!!!!

@SWFLCane my man in solitary confinement knows whats up.

Not exactly accurate.

Could you walk me through how he destroyed those teams?

I honestly have no strong opinions here, except that I find it curious that many of the ones that overlook the flaws of Butch seem to be the same ones crucifying Manny for remarkably similar results, albeit without sanctions.

IMO both are somewhere in the middle of the critics and defenders.

Butch deserves immense credit as an architect, but let's not forgot he never won it with that roster, and there's no guarantee he would have if he stayed. People like to say Coker crashed the Ferrari (and he did), but at least he won the race with it first.

Cleveland was a ****show that went from 3-13 to 7-9 in his first year. He left after a 5-11 season. Coincidentally, that was the same as Belichick's last season with them.

UNC fired him hoping the sacrifice would end the investigation. The NCAA even said it wasn't investigating Butch.

FIU has the most wins ever under Butch with a 9-4 2018 season. Everyone wants to talk about 1-15 since beating us, but neglects the 23-14 record before beating us.

Agree 100%. But when we talk about past accomplishments, which is more important, remembering the positive or ignoring a few warts? We're not hiring Butch and he's not even a candidate. He's retiring, so we should thank him for the fond memories and let him ride off into the sunset as a Canes legend instead of trying to "Well, ackshully" the **** out of the man.

Same applies to Coker.

Cleveland 9-25 his last two seasons

UNC 16 vacated wins and mired in a years long investigation

FIU horrendous recruiting and 1-15 over his last 16 games.
