What Saban inherited:

What Saban did with only 6 lost schollies, and no bowl bans from 95'-99':

What Butch inherited:

Saban has had more success at college level. I don't think you can really compare much more BC Butch left Miami. Had Butch stayed, my gut tells me we would have won a few more titles.

But you left out pro careers. Butch won two Superbowls as DC and as HC took his team (the Browns at that) to the playoffs.
 
How could Butch carry something that is firmly held in Paul Finebaum's mouth?

For what?

I'm comparing them under extenuating circumstances. One was mediocre with a slap on the wrist, while the other somewhat thrived with one of the worse penalties the NCAA has ever handed down. And even if I did compare them after Butch is still better...turning around LSU & Bama, is a helluva lot different than turning around UNC.

And BTW, Bama wanted Butch in either 98' or 99', not Saban.
 
Maybe 2 decades ago Butch was better than Saban but it is very clear that Saban is the top coach in NCAA football right now while Butch is a bum sitting at home with no job offers.

The vast over rating of of Butch on here is sickening.
 
I love Butch and understand the comparison. But I'm fine keeping Saban in a class by himself. He has earned it.

Not a problem. Saban arrives at a SEC school with long history of buying recruits in a talent rich state famous for food and corruption. Ole Nick had found his home. Wins NC.

Nick make mistake to go the NFL where the "recruiting" are actually limited and cannot be used on everyone coming into eligibility. Nick finds out life within rules is not for him. Runs back to crime-ridden SEC where rules are not a problem. This time he goes to the mother lode of cash payments Bama. Nick flourishes once again in the biggest house in his homeland. Wins 3 NCs and runs the second biggest cheater out of town. Unfortunately of Ole St Nick, said cheater found a even nicer home where the whole conference just gets out of the way the mighty OSU. Urban then rains or Nick's parade.

Nick, no longer able to be the biggest cheater, runs back to NFL to coach Andrew Luck. Hoping to do better this time. Oh wait, that's tomorrows news.

Hey Nick is a good coach, but he must cheat to win. Period.

Saban would not win here like at Bama. Much like Mario, those Bama bag men do not go with the coach. They only Roll with The Tide.

Saban is top 5 greatest coach in college football history.

Take your shades off. Saban >Butch. 3(or4) NC> 0. Look at facts not what if or with emotions.

Since Nick left MSU, he has won 4 NCs. Nothing close to the same.

In fact, you never compared them at all in your post.
