Baxa went 4 of 10 in high school. Were they like 73 yarders or was his snapper and holder a joke or am I drunk? 281-330-8004

The lady answering the phone # you gave says if I call there again asking for you she's calling the police.

I'll try again after midnight from a pay phone

You’re drunk.

Baxa’s senior year stats were awful but I read he was discovered at a kicking camp. This is not uncommon. As you joked, the support from holders, long snappers, and OL were not great.

I almost feel like the staff should take the delay of game penalty when they're attempting a chip shot field goal from a tight angle. He seems to be pretty automatic when he's a few yards deeper but those short kicks from the far hash are a bit of an adventure

Florida would have probably declined the penalty but I agree we should have tried that. Actually we could have waited to see if they declined the penalty and used that time to consider going for it on 4th down if they did decline the penalty. I have seen that strategy employed a couple of times over the decades, not by the Canes but in obscure games I watched in Las Vegas. It was an ideal situation for it because while a 6 point lead is nice obviously a 10 point edge is another level entirely. You use the time to plan your best 4th down play. Then once you run your offense out there now Florida is scrambling. They might burn a time out.

Basically lots of chances to tinker around to our advantage and we utilized none of it by simply trotting the kicker out there from a severe angle.

On edit: Maybe it was 4th and goal not 4th and short. Too sick of an outcome for me to rewatch the tape so I threw it away and don't remember

Most of his high school attempts were from over 40 yards and you're correct, he was scouted at camps not because of his game footage. Most high schools don't have any type of kicking coach and often times, even the most simple extra point snap can be an adventure. Recruiters, especially for kickers don't care about high school statistics. If they see the kid booting 40+ yarders consistently at camps, they'll offer him.
