Bruce Feldman Says a Loss to UL puts Golden on THE HOT SEAT

I have no idea how this game is going to go, but UL absolutely tortured us on both sides of the ball last year and unless everyone one of those lineman are gone, I'd say they have a huge advantage playing at home. Plus we have a total question mark behind center. At least we have hope, but I'm not seeing why anyone would think we'd be a favorite in this game.

Why shouldn't it? Miami has had better recruiting classes in the last 4 years than Louisville. This is Golden's 4th year compared to a 1st year coach in Petrino. Louisville just kicked our *** in the last bowl game. How can you justify not winning this game? You can't.

THIS

I think this game is even money. If we get blown out, then we got a serious problem. No question.

But the fact is, we have a very questionable OL right now. We have no clue what we have at QB. And we dont know how this defense is going to be. We have experience coming back. It **** WELL better be an improvement over last year. But I dont see the huge advantages we have over UL.

I think we have SOME. But people act like Petrino is some kind of new guy figuring this gig out. That dude is one of the top offensive minds in football, and has been in the NFL, and has bent and sodomized many a good DC, **** of a lot better than the guy we have.

So Im not sure where this new found sense of dominance against UL is coming from. We are on the road, with a new QB, who has possibly not even been selected yet. and a questionable OL.

Were going to lose some games this season. People cant act like the world has imploded every time we drop a game. What we CANT do, is lose like sh*t, and play like sh*t, and lose to inferior teams. We dont know if UL is inferior or not right now.

So Golden is not on the hot seat now, but if he loses a game roughly half this board expects him to lose, then he is on the hot seat?

just not buying it

Not saying the seat shouldn't be warm, just not buying a loss at UL lights the match.

Not sure where you are getting those numbers from. Most think he should win this game.

This is so idiotic.

If Golden proves he's not the guy this season, you do not retain him. Period. I don't give a **** if, in YOUR mind, there's as small as a 1% chance of finding the right guy, that's still 1% more than what we would have with a proven failure as a coach.

This line of thinking is so bizarre.

Well that's the real issue. What "proves" he's not the guy? Losing to UL? To you and the other hot heads, you were convinced last year he's not the guy. To a lot of us though, its not that simple. Losing to UL is not going to "prove" anything to me. How we play the season is what is going to show me something. If this defense can show major improvement, if it looks like whatever this guy claims he's been trying to do is finally starting to come together, and with the talent he's lining up, yeah, I can give the guy another year to see if it finally clicks.

The problem here, is that we are not going to have a consensus here. We are GOING to lose games. So barring one of two extremes taking place this season, either a total collapse, or one of these QBs gets hot, the Defense clicks and we suddenly catch fire and make an unexpected major run, we are likely to still be having this argument come next January.

Lose to UL, and the wheels might come off right from the beginning. Make no mistake. This is a HUGE game for UM and Golden.

UL is bringing in an entirely new system on offense, defense and special teams, and they lost their best players from last year. UL should not be expected to be clicking on all cylinders the first game of the season with 3 entirely new systems.

On top of that, they have a new QB with no experience. Bad DC with a pretty complex system that takes time to learn. UM recruits from a better talent pool than UL. If Al can't go out there and get this win, then he's going to have an uphill battle to keep things together this year.

Way too many things in his favor for this game (forget the Rustled Bowl because it's meaningless for THIS matchup) for him to lose this game.

if were blown out id agree. a tough loss would make no difference and golden is fine. he will be judged on his body of work this year but **** get a 5th year due to Shapiros. bS.

That makes sense in a vacuum, but fans don't think that way. Fans are ready to flip the switch on him. If he blows this game, then there won't be much hope around the program. Too many factors in our favor fir this game.

And that's when things start getting salty. That's how coaches lose jobs. When fans lose hope coaches lose jobs.

You are right. Our fan base is weak as ****. Knee jerk type, just see the fire butch banner. Then the I love golden banner LAST YEAR.

4 years isn't knee jerk. I'm hopeful he turns it around, but if we lose to UL, then it'll be a disaster around UM. The players have shown a willingness to shut it down on him too, so it's not just the fans he'll be battling if he lays an egg opening night.

News to me that Golden has coached here 4 years.

And I highly doubt his veterans shut it down on him if they lose labor day.
These arent the kids he inherited from Randy we're talking about who really had no loyalty to Golden and did shut it down when the bowl ban news came out. I would like to think that these players have more pride than to call it quits after the first game if it doesn't go their way.
So lets stop with the exaggeration about the season tanking after the first game.

James and Shalala love Golden

Plus he is setting us up to be elite in 2015 and beyond....he's not going anywhere

To be elite, you have to have coaches that can out x and o other teams. We do not have that on this staff.

Well, I don't know about that, but IMO, it certainly sets the tone for the rest of the season( or at least the first month)

But regardless, why dont we let this season play out first before putting out any hot seats?

ah go **** a "scheeemmm" K9

I just think that at the very least the admin feels they owe it to AL to give him 5 years.
He took the job without prior knowledge of what was about to go down.
Despite this he kept it positive and represented Miami the program well through it all.
He's busted his *** on the recruiting trail and as stockpiled some good talent and all signs point to add more with the 2015 class.
It would be perceived by everyone nationally as bush league if Miami fired Golden.
Coaches would think twice about seriously coaching at Miami. Some of you guys seriously underestimate how much this plays a role in the quality of coaching candidates that we'll have to choose from. Only retreads and no names would consider coaching here which will put the program back to square one or worse.
For these reasons Golden has this year and next to right the ship.

Not that I'm worried that he won't or can't. I have full faith thtt he will. Just want to help set expectations for Golden is on the hot seat crowd.

Only way Golden loses his job before is if he loses his players, becomes defiant with the Admin or gets busted banging a secretary ala Petrino. And I don't see any of that happening.

There is a near zero chance of Golden being fired, for two big reasons. First and foremost, the folks that really matter, those that contribute money, time and experience, like him. Secondly, the buy out would be hefty. So barring a Sandusky type catastrophe, a couple of losses are irrevelant to his future. His staff, I dont know.

I tend to agree with this. We've had issues on defense since Golden arrived. It's his defense. So far it's been a major liability. Coley isn't innovative it seems, but it's only year two. He needs a triggerman. I want to believe Kaaya is that man. We didn't touch the middle of field with Morris, so there is hope for Coley.

I didn't say they think he should lose, I said they expect him to.

Exactly. There is no hot seat for Golden. Look at the recruits he's bringing in. Look at all he's doing right. The administration isn't going to fire a guy doing so many things right, unless he just falls the heck apart, both on and off the field. One stinking game will never put him on the hot seat. It's a clean slate now that the NCAA mess is over. Hot seat my eye.
Is Feldman financing the payout? After the B.S. we've been through the last 3 years, Al will get a couple of years to turns this around. Anybody that follows the Canes would understand that, so he's just throwing his made up story out there to get attention. I can get better news on the Canes form some posters on this website than the imposters on the others. It would would be a more legit story if were Cory Feldman reporting, his eyes pertruding from the grave.

Then what got Shannon fired? He had a comparable record and was bringing in "top recruits" too while trying to maintain some respectability of our players on and off the field.

wrong. He was not recruiting well the last two years. We had no qbs. One rb. No lbs. no dlineman. Dude was a disaster.

I hate to make it so simple, but for me it all comes down to how the defense performs. While I think Golden is relatively safe barring a total collapse, if the defense struggles again this year, Al is going to have to finally part ways with D'onofrio.

Its business. Nothing personal.

Its the nature of the losses that is gonna do Golden in. Its not just a loss. In 2010 with Randy team he had a bunch of close loss and everyone use the Shapiro gate excuse. Since then he has been dragged all over the field by ND FSU VT Duke, K St. Just totally annihalated...and people fall back to the easy excuse of the Cloud. Its an excuse but its very easy. Good coaches do not have so many blow outs on their resume at Miami, sorry we had almost all our scholarship limitations his entire tenure. Something is rotten and its not any cloud. We are not going to win the NT this year or next with this staff, i feel safe i saying that but the media has two years in a row pick us to win the Coastal division. And they just look at our depth chart, so if Golden and Co keeps getting blown out by crappy teams, why should we keep believing they are turning it around? I don't think many of you understand how bandwagon Miami fans are....the ones who go to the game and not on message boards. If it gets rotten like all over morning talk shows, Golden is gone. This is not Some hilly billy place where everyone fall in line behind said god figure coach. Planes will fly, the Alumni will get vocal as well...i'm talking the ones who played for Miami too. We turn 180 on people in Miami so quick you wouldn't believe. He cut a year of goodwill away with Pedo St so no more talking about how he stuck with us, we are stuck with him...for now. Prove that you more than just a bunch of rehearsed talking points.

Didn't know where to put this, but the USA Today's Paul Myerberg reported just a moment ago...

@PaulMyerberg: Uh oh. Louisville says potential AA WR Devante Parker suffered a foot injury at practice Friday night. Severity unknown.

Oldman made one good point that no one here wants to touch, but lets get real, that's the big motherf*cking problem we have.

What the **** makes ANYONE think that we are going to get the right coach next time? Al Golden and Randy Edsall were the finalists for this job. Randy Shannon was who they picked before that. And that was a few years from back to back MNC appearances, a Title, and one of the longest win streaks in Div. 1 Football. And RANDY F*CKING SHANNON was the best we could do.

If AG has to go, then he has to go. But be careful what you wish for. I have ZERO faith that UM is going to get any top level coach that can walk in here and get this program firing on all cylinders overnight. Its going to be yet ANOTHER "rebuilding process" and more "steps, and pillars" and bullsh*t.

I dont think a loss in the UL game fires up the hot seat, unless its some kind of embarassing bloodbath. But he needs to show something this year. He needs to show that this "process" is working and he's building something. That the players are buying in and learning the "system" and "scheme" and all that sh*t. That's what I need to see, and I think that's what most of the level headed fans want to see. I want to be able to see that this is going somewhere. That we are taking the next step. There are always going to be the hot heads that want to WIN NOW OR DIE. You cant run a program with that mindset. Not unless you can drop 5 million a year on an HC. It took Butch some time to get it just right. And even then, it was that scrawny kid from Cali that was the missing piece that brought it all together.

Hopefully AG's cake is finally ready to bake, and another kid from Cali is the piece we have been waiting for.

Jim Grobe took Wake to an orange bowl. And he's available
