Bring him (Mark Stoops) to me!

As a head coach? Yes. Absolutely.

For reference, see “Shannon, Randy.”
Well like I was saying to Mainline there's technically no penalty for being wrong about our coaches potential but the last time we were really wrong we watched Mario go to Oregon.

Shannon wasn't a horrible coach. I'd have used Golden as a reference to a coach who got too much time.

His recruiting classes range from 25-37 over the last 5 years or so. Handful of 4 stars in each class. In the years prior to his arrival the classes were lower, mostly in the 40s and I saw a 115 as well. Within the SEC though, the classes are in the bottom 1/3. All at a basketball school in a non-talent rich state while competing against the big dogs.

Is he an ace recruiter? No but certainly not a liability especially if he hires a quality staff which I think he would do. He knows how to identify and develop though which is what we desperately need here. I don't think we would see a drop in recruiting compared to Manny. Right in the 12-15 range with potential to climb as we actually put a quality product on the field.

No coach is coming here that doesn't have faults or question marks surrounding them. I think Stoops is a low risk hire that checks a lot of the boxes we're looking for.

Low risk only if money doesn’t matter. If money matters he’s very high risk.

I don't understand why we're crowning this guy. He's 54-50 for his career. Has only surpassed 8 wins once in his career. And sure he beat UF, but his QB only threw for 87 yards in that game.

How is this coach going to take us out of mediocrity when he has lived in mediocrity his entire career? If he was as good as people are touting him to be, he would've been poached by another SEC school already.

JJ's overall record at OSU was 29-25-3 before building NC caliber teams at Miami. Records alone are not always a good indication of coaching prowess.

Jimmy Johnson was 29-25 while at Oklahoma State. So sometimes the record doesn’t match the coach. I think he would be a great hire for our program. We haven’t had a coach get 100% effort from our players in decades. He gets that out of his 2-3 stars. He’s overachieved at UK.
sorry I did not see your post when I posted mine but said the same thing.

All coaches who lose and get fired display lots of ineptitude. That's why they lose.

Question is are you ready to say that Manny's career is toast right now after his first 3 years ever as a head coach.

Yes. There is no "Dabo" in Manny

He was pretty horrible.

My point is that when a guy fails as head coach at Miami he is done as a head coach. Look at Shannon and Golden.

Manny is headed down that path.

Any coach that stops the silliness on the sidelines, conditions the heck out of them, plays the best players regardless of age, and decides to treat this like a business, I'll take. That is the failure of our entire administration. College sports are a business, or should be from the higher ups point of view. With the NIL, even more so.

It’s possible but it’s also pure hyperbole. You can literally make this same comment about any halfway decent coach in America.
Hyperbole?

Nah, how many halfway decent coaches are out there? And that Miami will hire?
You make it sound like you can just pull a name out of a hat and start winning.

Remember most were saying the same thing about Manny. Could Mullen win at Miami? Probably. Heuple? Maybe. Malzahn? Nope. Winning at Miami has proved it is not the given everyone assumes it should be.

What Stoops did to uf and what he is doing at the basketball school is more impressive than what Mario is doing with all the resources at the Nike school.

What was more impressive, Oregon's win over osu* or UK beating uf. Was it a fluke win, idk, but we'll see how the season plays out for Stoops.

Exactly. Everyone clowns the gaytors for claiming $ec schedule when they play in the East, but now it's murderer's row for Stoops. And they play absolutely nobody ever worth a **** out of conference. Half the schedule is a joke and that's the half he wins by and large. Compared to Manny that's great, but so what

Horrific argument

For Florida, a team that recruits at a Top 10 level where they are more talented than every team they play in that division outside UGA, yes it’s a “joke”

Seriously trying to compare KENTUCKY, a program that has 3 10 win seasons in their HISTORY, which Stoops has one to say the rest of the division is a joke to them. Historically USCe, Missouri, Tenn, all get better talent than Kentucky

Stoops is not a **** hire on paper, but I believe he could get us to 9-10 wins a season. His ceiling might be lower than some of the other candidates being discussed, but I believe he has a higher floor. Stoops with a legit OC would be dangerous here.

He has a legit OC now

Problem is his QB can’t throw the hall accurately over 5 yards

His QB is a PSU reject who was horrific for them

The assumption that Mark Stoops would have Miami winning the ACC and possibly in the playoffs right now is quite the leap. It's not impossible but you could say that it's not impossible for numerous head coaches, even ones I don't really care for, to have Miami in position to win the ACC this year. ****, Manny could still win the ACC this year. Probably not but it's possible. I'm just not going to go all in on a guy who's barely a .500 coach just because he beat a Florida team that could very well finish the season unranked. Would it be an upgrade? Yeah, is he anywhere near my top choice? no. I think Miami can do better. I don't think he's a bad coach, I just don't subscribe to the theory that if a guy can win 7 games at a mediocre program, he'll automatically be able to win 10 games at a bigger name program.

He has 5-6 guaranteed wins every year, and is lucky when he gets to 7. Whose responsibility is it to bring in those recruits? So we just continue to put blinders on that he brings in crap talent and 0 Qbs ever? Whose fault is that then after all these years? Historically those programs bring in more, not really now though. We bring in more than anyone in the Coatstal historically too and have won in it once. Those other teams don't say Oh well we're Duke we shouldn't beat them.

Historically those programs are better but Stoops has been at UK since 2013 and those programs have all been trash over that time period. Also, I checked into UK's recruiting rankings during Stoops' tenure and they're better than I thought. They generally finish in the 30's overall which isn't bad at all for Kentucky and is actually much better than Missouri has been. So their teams aren't as pathetically undertalented as some folks make them out to be.

It’s KENTUCKY

Do you know anything about the history of college football?

Why wasn’t Saban winning big at Michigan State

Why did Oregon suck balls at Ole Miss

Why did Cristobal have a terrible record at FIU

Why did Dan Mullen only have 1 10 win season at Miss State

Why did Paul Chryst only win 7 games at Pitt max in 3 seasons and then suddenly start winning double digits at Wisconsin

List goes on and on

It’s almost as if those schools have wider access to talent which equals to more success

Once again

It is

KENTUCKY

Manny is headed down that path.
Shannon had a brief stint as an associate head coach at Florida and Golden's career actually went upward as he went to the NFL for a few years after Miami. Larry Coker found another head coaching job and Richt was burned out. We boot Manny and he'll probably get back up again. He's young enough to get another chance.

2021:
Kentucky only above USCe and Vandy

2020:
Only above Mizz and Vandy

2019:
Above Mizz and Vandy
2018:
Above Mizz and Vandy

2017:
Mizz and Vandy

2016:
Mizz and Vandy (Mizz has higher player average)

Basically get worse players than every team in division outside Vandy and Mizz and they barely outrecruit Mizz
