Bring back Barrow

This is bull.

Most here who have arguments against alums coaching is because those alums haven’t coached and they don’t want them to go through the growing pains at Miami.

Obviously Barrow doesn’t apply to that argument, but he wasn’t so good that he’d be a can’t miss add.

Stop bullsh!tting.

You can already see porsters who are speaking against Michael Barrow, an alum who HAS coached at Miami, and coached well. So maybe YOU are charitable enough to consider hiring Barrow, but I wasn't referring to people like you, I was referring to the dopey porsters who slam EVERY Miami alum, regardless of resume.

Porsters who talk down Kevin Patrick. People who talk down Mario Cristobal. People who talk down Winston Moss. People who talk down Ken Dorsey.

And nobody is a "can't miss add", so cut the nonsense. Dan Enos was "coming from Alabama" and was due to be promoted to OC by Saban, and he was a spectacular failure at Miami.

You’re making stuff up. Reading through the thread, I haven’t seen anyone slam him. Some have said they don’t want him, but they never said it was because he was an alum. Maybe they think he’s a retread hire that doesn’t seem to have the drive that made him successful his first go round, so I see the concern.

As for the other names mentioned, I don’t recall many arguments against Cristobal when he was hired as OL coach for a week. Most don’t want him as HC because he has shown several major red flags in that position.

You may take random opinions from one or two posters and paint that as “dopey” Miami fans on guys like Dorsey or Moss, but that’s disingenuous. They may have their reasons or maybe they’re just trolling. Just like we shouldn’t write them off cuz they’re alums, we shouldn’t be clamoring for them just cuz they’re alums, either.

You may be a nice enough guy, but on this, you are full of ****e. You are using your re-read of this 3-page thread as "evidence" that certain dopey fans haven't been ****ting on hiring UM alums for years.

And you give yourself away in your last paragraph by acknowledging that "maybe they're just trolling". Yeah, the trolling is what MAKES THEM the dopey porsters.

Finally, your over-generalization (which you seem to be railing against) comes out when you say "we shouldn't be clamoring for them just cuz they're alums". Which, of course, nobody is doing. People cite legitimate resume reasons to consider hiring a UM alum or two. Not to mention the fact that certain porsters like to complain about the need to "bring old Miami back" while acting as if we should never hire those who know what "old Miami" was like.

But, hey, why don't you just keep white-knighting for dopey "never hire a Miami alum to coach" porsters. And trolls, I guess. I'm done.

Michael Barrow is a great linebackers coach. However, does he want to put up with the grind of being college coach again after being with adults and living a comfortable life with his family.
Even though it 10 years ago, a lot has changed in the college game and in recruiting.
Caneville was interviewing Blisainthe and he didn’t know who John Beason was and this is a local kid who’s had a Miami offer for a while.
Barrow might come in with that old school approach to a kid and it might turn him off.
Recruiting these players now a days is a pain in the ***. All the social media stuff and the negative recruiting and the *** kissing might not be something he’s used to. At least when he was here as a coach people still saw our 2001 team and the players blowing up in the nfl as a relevant team with multiple pro bowlers and a natty less than 10 years old.
You also have to take into consideration that these kids are brainwashed that it’s sec or bust unless it’s Clemson or Suckeyes.

I don’t know his recruiting style is but just be wary of coaches who’ve been away from this cesspool of recruiting for a while.

Two things I remember most about Barrows tenure at Miami

1. He recruited some damned good looking LBs on paper. Brown, Young, Kirby, Buchanan, Adkins, Sharpton, McCarthy, Spence. Several guys who played very well at UM, but when on to get mid to low draft status and sub-par careers in the NFL

2. These dude stayed injured, like all the time. Even when they went into the league stayed injured. It was almost like a curse.

If Barrow was on staff, I'd almost guarantee we would have some damned good LB hauls every signing period, I'm.just not sure how they would pan out

1. I used this thread as evidence in Barrows situation. Did not apply it to all other Miami alums.

2. If they’re trolling, they’re not worth acknowledging. Some have different opinions and that’s fine.

3. Alum status should have little to nothing to do with on field hires. Find the most qualified guy that we can afford and who wants to come. If it’s an alum, that’s great. If not, that’s great too. All other things being equal maybe we can factor in alum status.

Just as people have legit arguments for hiring certain alums, there are decent arguments why not to hire some of them. If that’s just cuz they’re alums, that’s dumb, but there are usually other reasons included.

4. I’m not white knighting anyone. I’m acknowledging other perspectives whether I agree with them or not.

Good talk

He’s in NC. Think he’s in involved in the church & has a podcast.

Would love to have him back but I think he’s done coaching. D Sharpton, Colin, Spence, DP were his guys. Eddie could have been decent but got kicked out. Also, Thurston, Futch, Cook, T Gooden. He kept guys home & developed them in No D’s wack scheme.

He‘d do great with Diaz.
some good linebackers in that group

Would love to see him come back. Great coach and recruiter. Currently not employed. Make the call Manny.
Would he even want to comeback after being out of coaching for 5 years?
