I was still in diapers when Jim Kelly played here and I know he is considered an all time great but why him over say Gino,Steve or Dorsey?

Looking at his stats while here in Miami, they are not overwhelming.

'79 48-104 46.2 pct 5 TD 6 INT
'80 109-206 52.9 pct 11 TD 7 INT
'81 168-285 58.9 pct 14 TD 14 INT
'82 51-81 63 pct 3 TD 1 INT

That was a different time for QB stats. In general they've improved over the years as the passing game has become a bigger part of the offense. But, Kelly wasn't here for the great Miami teams, it was just starting to get built up - something he contributed greatly to.

But more importantly, Kelly was an EASY hall of famer, while the other QB's aren't anywhere close. That's why it's Kelly.

In addition to the stats comment.. Regardless of Era.. 14 TD's against 14 INT's is the same regardless of year it was played in.

It was still a different era. DBs used to mug WRs back then. Montana also had the same amount of INTs (25) as TDs (25) in his career at Notre Dame.

Dan Fouts had 54 picks to 37 TDs in his career at Oregon.

Head says Jim Kelly, heart says Ted Hendricks.

Honorable mentions Carlos Huerta, Ed Reed, Warren Sapp, and Wilfork.

Sorry, but Vinny couldn't win the big one with what was, at the time, our most talented team ever. He'd win every game until a title was on the line.
He lost to a team that was undefeated and who won 2 titles in that 5 year window. He was arguably our most talented QB as a prospect. Vinny avg nearly 10 yds per attempt at a 65% clip.
