How do you think our athletes gamble? They get a high school friend or a college kid to make all the bets for them. Our players definitely aren't betting on their own games (I hope), but in this day in age, it's safe to assume most male college students are betting on collegiate and professional sports

I would hope not. IMO I think it’s fine if they’re gambling on other sports and not CFB. Like when it came out Sorsby was gambling on MLB pitches, who cares right? It’s the CFB stuff that is concerning

If a person is going to Cincy Reds games so he can place live in-game pitch wagers...that person is a degenerate gambler and should be the canary in the coal mine to more nefarious behavior. Live in-game pitch bets are for firmly in the red gamblers. An in the red gambler is a very desperate person. Of course he was chasing the dragon with inside info on the sport he actually played for the team he was playing for, and he picked against their best interest.

Lowest of the low. The MLB stuff - or betting on other sports - should BE concerning.

I'm not talking about Mario, I'm talking about the running back. Deciding to run the ball instead of kneeling is stupid enough. Now imagine that same RB that fumbled, imagine he got caught betting on the team before the season started....That's the equivalent of Sorsby ending up playing this season just to throw a game ending INT in the worst moment possible. The team is going to rally behind him after that?

Imagine if Carson Beck had this scandal and we let him play...How tf y'all feeling after the UL stupid *** INT to end the game? The SMU one? You think the team would trust him enough to finish the season strong?

He was never charged of any crime(YET) and was deemed eligible to play this season in court, doesn’t mean what he did was ok but all this fake outrage from conferences filled with schools who handed out cash illegally to get players for years & dudes who beat up women, drive recklessly, and drink underage all playing on saturdays is hilarious..he went against the NCAA n won & they can file appeal, move on n lace em up or just ban betting on college sports in general if it’s so egregious that players place bets.

I’m saying those type of MLB bets wouldn’t be concerning if he didn’t place 1k+ bets over $90k.

Like I went to a random Columbus nhl game and placed $10 on something like +120 goal scorer just to make the watch a little more enticing. Those types of bets enhance the viewing experience if you don’t have a dog in the fight (not one of your fav teams) but just my opinion.

Brendan Sorsby committed multiple crimes while gambling throughout the course of his college career​


Underage Gambling

The legal sports betting age in both Indiana and Ohio is 21.

Sorsby didn’t turn 21 until January 2025, meaning the thousands of wagers reportedly placed during his time at Indiana (2022–23) and early at Cincinnati (2024) would have occurred while under 21.

Illegal Sports Wagering & Use of Others’ Accounts

According to filings, after transferring to Texas Tech, Sorsby allegedly sent roughly $5,000 to out-of-state proxies to place bets on his behalf while physically located in Texas, where online sports betting remains illegal.

This is a federal crime.

The filings also state he funneled more than $60,000 through a FanDuel account registered under a friend’s name and used accounts belonging to family members. Those actions allegedly bypassed age restrictions.

Yet despite all of this, he’s eligible to play.

There is a difference.

You're going to the game and putting a little scratch on it to make a little interesting. You're also not betting on or against your own team (or its best interests).

He was going to the games, not for fun, but to place the wagers in real time. Those types of wagers are very hard to do at home these days...especially with the inconsistent delays on your broadcast. You go to the games to put yourself into a position to make those kind of wagers for your degenerate behavior, not to enjoy Elly De La Cruz. Its the equivalent of hanging out at the race track and betting the dogs on a Tuesday night. What in the **** are you doing there? That's the behavior of a degenerate. That's the behavior of an in the red gambler. And those types of people can't be trusted. They are desperate people with no shame.
 
I told myself the bets made me part of the experience. Friendship, loyalty, and fandom were all counterfeit currencies until I added actual currency.

He gambled UNDERAGE, which is a crime in Indiana. He admitted to those facts.

If you don't know the facts, at least stop asserting things you do not understand.

I am in agreement with @Alex_Dynamix -- lots of faux outrage. I wasn't happy about those INTs either way. Is there any evidence showing anything about his game play? There are video after video after video of the pitchers throwing games, but even with all the outrage, I am not seeing that Sorsby breakdown. Lots of holier than thou comments related to this case.
