Brenden Sorsby- The Gambling Addiction

this. im pro NIL but the way theyre just skirting the very simple rules by forum shopping is ridiculous.

at this point, if sorsby takes a snap, I hope Mario never holds a player out for a targeting suspension. rules dont matter.

All legalities, consensus or decorum aside, why would I not want our starting QB to be a gambling addict who bets against his own team?

Ah geez fellas I don’t know.

The conflation of issues on this topic is next level. This isn’t an issue of morality. This isn’t about whether gambling should be legal or illegal for players. This is about rules and the selective enforcement of them. The rules were clear - can’t bet on college football if you’re a college football player, let alone your own team. He admitted as much. There is also evidence this happened several times. NCAA made a ruling, Sorsby filed for injunction in a friendly court, found a judge who created a BS narrative as justification and voila….rules don’t matter anymore. How is it any more complicated than that??

PS. Sorry for the on-topic commentary.

He bet against IU while at IU. Not while starting.
Not saying you are making an argument, but what does it matter if he was starting? He clearly had inside information that he used to make a sure fire bet. What prevents a gambling addict from doing that again? It all goes back to the integrity of the game being questioned.

Brother I’m against him playing. See my other comments.

I was only giving the full context.

Kirby Win-at-all-cost Hocutt is the AD who apparently thinks rules aren’t for TT. If he had any cojones he’d tell Sorsby to hit the road; instead he’s kowtowing to the billionaire booster. The billionaire has probably paid off the “retired” judge who took over when the first judge recused himself. Sorsby was gambling back at angelic Indiana so he also thinks rules aren’t for him as he lawyered up as soon as he got caught then using the age old excuse of going to “counseling”. TT & the BIG 12 are a joke. Throw the book at Sorsby et al. You can’t pick & choose what rules you want to enforce.

Yeah while we’re at it let’s ban everything else that can be detrimental if someone doesn’t follow a clear rule
My point is yeah what he did was immoral and against the "rules' and he ultimately shouldn't be able to play but it wasn't a crime and at the end of the day he was ruled eligible by the courts it is what it is fam i dont wanna hear UGA and OSU of all teams crying about it.. ..betting is one of the biggest money makers in sports right now if not the biggest they literally show you spreads and over/unders while you watch games, and now we're outraged cause a kid who rode the bench got caught betting on his team to win? lol....like i said if one of our best players got caught doing what sorsby did and was ruled eligible to play this season I wanna see how many of yall would boycott Canes football............
He broke federal laws by gambling under the age of 21 and also wiring other people money to place bets for him while he was not in sports gambling legal states. Tech does not need to be going to bat for him

So if I read what you wrote correctly, this info has been known for almost two years and no one did anything?

This sport is so cooked.
My bet (pun intended)
Is we will see more and more of this pop up across the country based on the number of athletes that are doing it from what I heard.

I was shocked to hear it and from where but that is what gives me the confidence to say it IS at every **** school and at a high level.

If I’m a coach, AD etc…this would be a continual topic w players not a one and done, it needs to be reinforced consistently. Same with our own kids who can easily fall into the gambling trap!!

Wiring money does not support the addiction argument. There is a lot of thought and planning behind wiring. Simply clicking a "bet" button on an app might lend to an addiction argument. But a full scale operation of wiring money shows he knew exactly what he was doing and was looking to profit as much as he could.

According, to the NCAA court filings, yes. Worth noting that the Big 12 contracted ProhiBets but had always said that is was up to the schools to enforce. So the Big 12 probably didn't knew. But they still had access to the information.

Here's what I took from NCAA's coart filings mixed with what we heard from USA Today and ESPN:

- March 11 - NCAA receives tip about Sorsby's gambling activity from an online sportsbook, which was informed by law enforcement (most likely Philly FBI field office who was wrapping up their big betting operation)
- April 14 - NCAA notifies Texas Tech of its investigation. Requests phone records
- April 27 - Texas Tech makes statement regarding Sorsby per ESPN
- April 28 - USA today reports from two anonymous sources that Cincinnatti was alerted in August of 2025. Cincinnatti when asked by USA Today - "no comment"
- April 28 - ESPN files public information request for Cincinnatti
- April 30 - Cincinnatti responds to information request saying they knew of it but it did not happen more than once.
- May 30 - NCAA court filing state that ProhiBets was triggered in August 2024 and Cincinatti was informed of Sorsby gambling. Cincinnatt made Sorsby take a "gambling is bad" course

So either the anonymous sources both got the year confused or they were notified twice. Either way, yes, Cincinatti knew about for two years and the Big 12 has access to know it for 2 years.

I don’t buy the “addiction” angle one bit. It was a narrative released before somebody else broke the story for sympathy.

personally if he didnt bet on himself or the team to lose i wouldnt give af especially if he had 0 impact on the game, but i respect the moral compass fam ✊
Honestly, I mostly agree with you here. My biggest problem isn't the gambling, it's the level of absolute retardation that Sorsby displayed. 40 bets on your own team in a 2 month period is just taking it too far. Wiring money to people in other states to make bets for you when it's not allowed in the state you are in - again, not the biggest deal but he was making too many bets with significant money. I dont think anything he did is worth prosecuting on a criminal level, but he got caught because he was so f*cking retarded. He had three gaming commisions and most likely the FBI aware of what he was doing.
