Dekkers pled guilty to underage gambling in 2023 and enrolled at Iowa Western Community College for the 2024 season.

Tech is paying 50 million dollars to play football. Unless it comes out this kid was literally throwing games, like Blue Chips type ****, this will be completely erased WAY before fall camp.

Doesn't the ncaa need a win like this in the worse way? This seems open & shut. I'm not even sure what Sorsby's camp would argue. Outside of him betting on his own team preceding the new rules they implemented in 2023, they still have clear cut rules, & defined repercussions for violating those rules, to stand on.

I'm willing to believe any conspiracy involving corruption/payoffs cause people. But I wouldn't bet on him playing the whole season at least.
 
Pete Rose got a lifetime ban for gambling on his team to win. Gambling on your own team is not taken lightly.

Well hang on. I may have jumped the gun. I was thinking people here were saying he'd be suspended for the season by the school or so deep in some treatment he'd not play football.

Is the question an NCAA or FBI suspension/arrest? Because then, of course, eligibility is in question. But all I've read is he's seeking treatment for a gambling addiction. I'm thinking that's the same as he's an alcoholic and going to rehab. And in that situation, absolutely 100000% he's playing football this fall. But if there's more to it that I don't know and he's going to be arrested for fixing games or something similar (like I said in my OP), then yeah, he's ****ed. I haven't seen that mentioned at all. Is he under federal investigation?

I don’t know. If he bet on his on team he’s done I’m sure. There’s precedent as @TomAce posted and OCCC also referenced a basketball example.

Imagine being a wr who signed with them for one year out of the portal and then you’re SoL for your money year.

Yeah, there's a **** of a lot to still unpack.

If he was betting on Cincinnati football games last fall, see ya. But that's a MUCH different headline. "Brendan Sorsby arrested for fixing games, was found to bet on games he competed in" is markedly different than "Brendan Sorsby is entering treatment for a gambling addiction".

But yes, if he was betting on games he participated in, I apologize to those I mocked. He's obviously not playing this fall. But that's not what's been reported thus far, at least what I've seen.

he got caught gambling on his own team allegedly. hes done. others have lost the entire year doing the same thing.

True but why does it always take so long before it comes to light? If the data is all there, why did it take thousands of bets before he got caught? He allegedly was betting on Indiana games while on the roster, that was 3 years ago.

You’re point is reasonable. It just says treatment. That said, the fear is that he bet on CFB, particularly his own team. If he bet on basketball, personally, I don’t think that’s an issue. He should have a right to be a degenerate gambler relating to sports he has no involvement in like anyone else.

You need a reason to look for it (not sure what it is in this case) but once you do it is there.

This article and headline seem like it is being pushed by his camp of people, and they are trying to get in front of something more damming. That's just my gut feeling, I could be wrong.
 
Kayshon Boutte bet on multiple LSU games whilst he played and over thousands of games illegally because he was underage at the time of the placed bets.

The NFL didn't suspend him, he was arrested and charged, but those were ultimately dropped. From what I've read, he was charged with underage gambling and computer fraud, the prior not having a hefty fine attached to it and the latter apparently being stretched to the point where prosecution made little sense.

The fact that we keep hearing about athletes involved in betting scandals, yet have professional leagues promote sports betting left right and center only prepares the next big betting scandal to ultimately hit.

And it's not just American sports, it's European sports as well.
