looks like the have already, they just didn't tell anyone. They are just collecting a check at this point.
 
So this ruling essentially sets a precedent that if a college athlete is caught gambling, they can claim they have a gambling addiction as a “health condition”, and they can remain eligible?

How is this not going to be used in future situations?

The problem is that Miami didn't challenge the NCAA legally back in the day when they had the chance. Instead, they fell in line with an organization whose foundational tenet—the "amateur student-athlete"—is nothing but a lie.
 
The comparisons between Sorsby and Mensah are ridiculous.

Sorsby admittedly broke NCAA rules by betting on games, including games involving his own team. The issue isn’t a question of breaking rules. It was a judge ruling that enforcing the rule causes harm to Sorsby. Or what we used to call consequences.

Mensah did not break any rules I am aware of. He put his name in the transfer portal before the deadline. He chose to transfer to Miami and worked out a financial agreement with Duke to compensate Duke for breaking the second year of his contract.

The controversy with Mensah is if Miami broke tampering rules by contacting him before he entered the portal in order to negotiate or otherwise convince him to enter the portal so he could transfer. I presume Miami did indeed tamper, but in such a way it would be difficult to prove. Same with the wide receiver from Duke. Which I’m sure was all just a coincidence, right?

Why didn’t Duke pursue this further? One reason is they tampered with Mensah when he was at Tulane. Another reason is the bad optics of trying to force a player to stay. Best course of action is to settle, post the wire transfer, and call it a day. Sucks for Duke since they don’t have a quarterback, but **** Duke.

Coaches complain about tampering and then turn around and tamper. You can argue the fine line definition of what is tampering and what isn’t tampering but at the end of the day these programs do not want the truth out in public.

They can also take PEDs for "health condition" as well...

Court ordered it and playing him week 1 would violate a court order

The connection is Judges overruling the NCAA, for the benefit of their local school.

It’s irrelevant why each should have been ineligible this season, the connection is the Good Ol Boy network ruling CFB, instead of any impartial body or leadership.

Hopefully Tech encourages Sorsby to still enter his name into supplemental draft. You can actually then say this court "win" works out quite well for Sorsby. Because the fact is the NFL would probably actually punish Sorsby with a suspension IF he was fully ruled ineligible THEN entered supplemental draft. Because then he never actually receives a punishment. NFL has done that a lot tbh. But not technically he is ruled eligigible just with a 2 game suspension, so maybe if he did go supplemental he'd only serve a small or no suspension. And a team may still draft him with a 2nd or 3rd value pick.
And then Tech avoids dealing with all the fallout.

I also still think the CFP should just come out now and say that they can view a player being ruled ineligible as justification for CFP entry... If after the fact he is in fact ruled ineligible by NCAA, then they could still void all their games and that harms the CFP.
