Brendan Sorsby enters Portal

Didn't Cig push him out in favor of Rourke? Would he take him back?
He lost the starting job at IU mid-season during Allen's last year. He basically lined the Cincy transfer up while the season was still going on. He was in the portal before Cig got hired, but did not officially transfer until after Cig was at IU. Not sure if Cig tried to retain him, but I think the ship had sailed regardless.

Every QB who enters the portal will be flawed in some way, but I am not a big Sorsby fan. He does not have a particularly strong arm and IMHO does not make up for that with fast processing. He is also not super accurate. I think people like him because of his athleticism, quick release, and running ability, but I have serious doubts about his ability as a thrower against solid defenses.

Personally, I feel like back end of Day 1 is a stretch. He's more of a low 3rd-4th round pick that could find his was in the late late 2nd/early-mid 3rd. In my opinion.

I’d agree for the most part. Just looks like a really weak class and he’s the type of guy who I’d bank on having a great combine and pro day, and I think he will interview well. He’s a prime “overdraft” candidate.

But in terms of analysis I fully agree with your assessment. All things considered he should be a day 2 guy.

He's in my top 3 - of which there is no real order and I wouldn't complain about any of the 3 and could justify any of the 3 in any order

Leavitt, Bailey, Sorsby - one caveat to that is Leavitt being healthy and able to participate in Spring. If not, no. Wouldn't even take him at all.

Raiola probably in the next tier for me but arguably the best arm talent of all of them. I just want running ability at QB. We haven't had it and it opens another element to our offense. I would add Mestemaker and Mensah and others to the list but I don't see them entering or just won't come here.

Under no circumstances can this system sacrifice arm talent for running ability under center. If they can run, great, its an added element. If there are questions in the passing game, you can't take them because the system won't function and you're limiting the ability of the arguably the best player in the country next year in Malachi Toney. That's why I said no to Sellers and no to Byrum Brown.

Swap Raiola for Leavitt and I’m in complete agreement. I like all 3.

I understand the skepticism on Leavitt. I haven't dug into his game in too much detail. Haven't really looked hard at anyone yet and just going off very limited live action I've seen.

Leavitt and Sorsby are just gamers. Remind me of what I thought Mateer would be this year.

Sorsby comes from a top 5 team in QB sacked % this year (46th in 2024) and Leavitt comes from Az State who was 90th this year and 41st last year. Don't have pressure rates in front of me but Leavitt seems like he has a lot of room to improve strictly with added protection.

Of all the portal QB names , Sorsby is going to get paid the most and is the most likely to have a bidding war between multiple major programs.

You won’t see that for Bailey or Raiola imo

To me this guy seems like the dude.

That said, here are some of my priors:

- Thought Bo Nix was a laughable take by Oregon
- Thought Joe Burrow was a JAG
- Thought Fernando Mendoza was kind of a JAG
- Thought Carson Beck was going to be mediocre (outside of two games he was pretty dang good)

I also did battle on here with people over Cam Ward so it's not all bad...but I think my takeway is that 99% of us doesn't **** about **** with these evals (exception being Memnon who I would trust blindly).

So you think this guy is a JAG?

U like bailey over leavitt? Idk about that
Absolutely Bailey is more accurate than leavitt and leavitt played in a more qb friendly offense with weapons still struggled with accuracy. Not to mention the way he’s played everything out publicly doesn’t seem like a Mario team kinda guy.
