I might be the only one, but I think he'd have been fine with better coaching. He was 7-10 as a true freshman. Sometimes kickers just need to get their mind right, and he never got that chance because of Twitchy Diaz. Dude plays tough with kickers, but can't be tough on the quitter QBs.
