BREAKING: Former Miami HC Butch Davis fired from FIU....

I'd happily have him join as an analyst or something similar. But I don't think it would happen because it would be a bit of a distraction that might outweigh the benefit.
I’m not a “gotta have Miami guys” when it comes to coaches

But having guys like Butch around the program I’m good with though like you said there could be downsides

I think as fans part of the frustration is we know there’s no one that will speak up that matters so we are somewhat overboard

If we have people higher up that are willing to say something before it gets out of hand that’s a start

I think the hope is Mario is this generation’s Butch. An elite recruiter, evaluator, and developer of talent that can overcome game day deficiencies by running a program that can kill you with wave after wave of hungry talent.

I think the risk/reward with Mario is low. Even if it doesn't work out, you know he and the former players who will galvanize around him will put an extraordinary pressure campaign forward to get the program to a more competitive place structurally and financially, which will help us make organizational progress. We are close. It's more of a firmware and software type situation than a hardware one. We have the IFP and the Schwartz in place already.

You also know that even if he fails he will most likely leave the roster stocked for the next guy too.

I also think Mario is a self-interested career-minded warrior who won't take the Miami job because he's smart, realizes its a step down from where he is, will have 10x the pressure, and if it doesn't work out will create an awkward relationship between him and his fellow UM alumni as well as with his home town and friends for the rest of his life. I think he's too smart to expose himself that way.

Except he bleeds orange and green. It is actually the right time to come back to Miami. If Miami makes any type of financial commitment, he knows he can win here and win big. His ego is big enough to know after 5 failed coaches he has some time.

When they asked Bear Bryant why he came back to Alabama, he responded, "Mama is calling."

And before everybody goes, he will blow a big game every year. Clemson lost to Pitt and won a national title and lost to a bad Syracuse team and still made the college playoffs. Not the kiss of the death. And on that note give a coach that does not throw a turkey every year or every other year not named Saban?
