BREAKING: Coach Larranaga to step down as head coach of Canes Hoops

Jim Larrañaga, the all-time winningest head coach in University of Miami men’s basketball history, announced Thursday that he is stepping down as head coach. Associate Head Coach Bill Courtney, who has been at Miami since 2019, has been appointed Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

4 time D2 national champion. Probably wins a 5th if the Covid year doesn’t get shut down (believe they were 31-1?). Has Drake 11-0 in year 1. Only 43 years old.

22-31 in his first two years at NW Missouri State. Then went 373-60 in the next 13.

He should’ve stepped down after last season. Timing isn’t good but at least he did the right thing. Was a godsend to the Bball program though.

Be grateful to that man. I know you all are happy to turn a corner, because the game seemingly passed him by, but be appreciative. He didn't need Miami to solidify himself. He did make Miami a very respectable basketball program.

He's a ******* legend, and guys are dying to replace him. May not be so simple.

So, we get an interim HC and have to wait until after March for our new leader unless we hire an NBA assistant? I do appreciate what coach L has done at UM. We went from irrelevant to final four based primarily on his back. I wish him well-always a Cane!!!

Very thankful for all he did for this program. Sucks he had to go out this way especially a couple years after a final four. Rename the court after him.

He did so much for this program and the back to back seasons going to the elite 8 and then the final 4 were so fun and memorable. Nervous for what's to come though in terms of who they hire, how many people we lose next year, and the incoming recruiting class. Please don't **** this up UM.

I am interested to see who we go after. Even still, coach L was a legend here at UM so he deserves a lot of praise. I think he did the right thing here. Miami needs to make a very important hire here though.
