Brandon Wimbush 247 Update 2/26

I've been on the record of saying I'd wait for Gibson but if Wimbush committed I wouldn't be mad AT ALL if we missed out on the Gibson express..now, if we don't get either than I'm ****ed off..I know there are some quality QB's we're after but it doesn't take a 20+ year internet recruiting expert to see Gibson and Wimbush are our cream of the crop QB targets..

LOL...being an internet recruiting expert has little or nothing to do with being an expert evaluator of football talent. Every recruiting site (including this one with Petey's hilariously superficial evals) tries and fails to blend the two and it's amazing to me that most fans still can't tell the difference. Look no further than this thread where Terrelle Pryor was brought up...poor kid was the #1 prospect on Rivals the whole process, now he's 24 and an NFL vet and he still can't grip a football properly, drop back with proper footwork, or read a defense. That's what happens when you have reporters (euphemistically titled "recruiting analysts") sniffing the jocks of teenagers and chatting them up on facebook to eventually compose evaluations and compile rankings.

I haven't seen Wimbush but this relates to Gibson because right now he's a raw athlete with a big arm who needs a lot of work on his pocket movement, pocket presence, mechanics and reads. The fact that he's already a 5* while Teddy Bridgewater was the #6 "dual-threat" (wtf) QB on Rivals tells you everything you need to know about those "experts".

Thanks and have a good day.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Wimbush is the better passer by a wide margin. Both are very gifted athletically, with Gibson maybe holding the slight edge there. At the end of the day, all things considered, I'll take Wimbush if he wants to commit and be ecstatic about it. Kid has future star written all over him. Hope Al and staff can close the deal.

Money post. +1000

I would take Wimbush or Gibson, and wouldn't complain about getting either one.

Both are good.

I agree. But another reason Gibson is a 5* qb is because schools like Miami, Auburn, OSU, UF, etc. have him either #1 or very high on their board.

Or is it because he's a 5 star athlete that's playing QB right now?

Every single one of the schools is recruiting him at qb and he will play that position in college.

And yes he's a 5* athlete, but highseas alluded to that in his post.

If he committed they would still go after gibson for a fact

I doubt that, unless it was to bring in Gibson as a WR which ain't happening(kid wants to play QB).

We are taking a small class and after signing 2 QBs in last year's class, we will only take 1 for the 2015 class.

If we got an early commitment from Brandon Wimbush, I would be more than happy and would care less where Gibson went b/c he will not come here with or without Wimbush.

Both Gibson and Wimbush have said they want to be the only QB in their class, so it makes no difference.

Where did you see this? Never heard that before. And if Gibson waits till NSD or all American game there is no way he will be the only qb.

Who is the last highly rated QB to wait until signing day? I honestly can't remember one, most top QB prospects wrap this **** up in the summer.

Pryor went past NSD because of "basketball". Times are different now as recruiting has been sped up since then. I don't see anyway Gibson will be able to wait if he wants to be the only QB in his class.

I get what your'e saying about misevals and such..but I was saying based on the priority UM has given these two particular QB's early, I think these 2 are on the board #1A &1B..that's all I meant when referring to the "recruiting experts." In interviews with the respective kid they both were told they were high priorities, one even told the position would potentially be shut down if he committed.

We'll most likely take 1/(2) QB this cycle so I take it since they're high priority to UM and they're both high on UM, if we can't manage to get either one it would be considered taking an big L in recruiting for this class. And regardless of what you may think of Gibson's QB mechanics right now you have to admit the kid is a helluva athlete who has barely scratched his surface. Maybe coming to UM learning and running out of a Pro-style offense doesn't allow him to be in the same conversation as Pryor in the future.

Disagree completely. Wimbush isn't asked to do much in his offense. Majority of his highlights are him dumping the ball underneath. Not saying that isn't a good thing after having Morris who never did that but I don't see how that makes him a better passer by a wide margin. Also its not even close athletically between the 2. Wimbush is a solid runner but Gibson is flat out running away from South Florida defenses. Dude's athletic ability is top notch. Wimbush is a few steps below in that category. Give me Gibson all day. Only issue is he plans to wait things out. If he changes his stance and commits in the spring or summer this isn't even a discussion.

Same Miami fans backing Wimbush were the ones claiming Morris would be better than Teddy LOL Wasn't there a poster on here claiming Morris would be drafted first prior to the season starting?

My opinions of Wimbush are well documented here. One of the most improved players and impressive throwing motions ive ever seen live at that level. Wont take long for him to improve in the rankings.

I'll agree to disagree. Wimbush, in my humble opinion, has a much better release, overall mechanics (feet in the pocket, pocket presence) and is way more accurate. Don't know which highlights you were looking at. In the Wimbush highlights I saw, the kid made some very impressive throws.

you fellas all know where Gibsons recruitment is going. Dont set yourself up. Ill take Wimbush and deal with less headaches...

This. I don't trust south fl. Kids right now . I would rather take a kid that will stick rather then latke a commit from Gibson and lose him to the SEC in Jan. LSU for one has shown that if they want a kid down here they will get him

This kid reminds me of Manziel. He has all the tools at QB, but every high school QB should have the luxury of throwing the ball to Fitzpatrick #21.

Kid sounds more into UM than Gibson does.

IMO if you can snag this kid, you shut it down and call it a day. I would be delighted with taking Wimbush as our QB in this class.
