Brandon Powell question?

hester didn't have great hands early on and couldn't really learn the playbook on offense. he had a couple plays. but, yes, ball should have been in his hands.

To be honest, if Al and Co. manage to flip Sony or Cook, wouldn't surprise me to see Powell come in as a CB initially. I think he could be very effective there.

why do ppl automatically assume Dalvin Cook would beat out Brandon Powell at RB?

Dalvin Cook would make a better DB prospect then Powell imo....

Miami needs more size, speed, and explosion on the defense, and it would be smart for his Pro career for Dalvin to play corner. he did say he wouldnt mind playing it before.

Devin Hester was a DB at Miami (shouldve been used on offense 2 though), Dalvin could be one, and we put him on STs and certain packages on offense.

I like him at corner, but I see a safety with stupid, unreal range.

If we do get cook whats wrong with keep all 3 (Yearby, Powell, Cook) at RB and redshirt 1 or 2?

Nothing, its called recruiting at an elite level.....

I think Brandon Powell can get to that LeMichael James type speed as he develops in college.

He's fast as **** right now.

I think south Florida players don't get labeled as freakish speed as much as other areas because everyone else on their film is so **** fast. I was shocked as **** when Duke got run down from behind against UNC, then come to find out the CB was from Ft. Lauderdale.

McCoy is also a NFL running back, with that being said i saw this kid up close at a camp he'll end up around 190-195 pounds and he will be a very good all purpose player at the "U" he's the type of kid u just want to get him the ball

How about the kid is going to be who he is going to be? Arguing about what (in some cases) NFL All-pro he compares to is premature mental *********ion.

There's nothing wrong with this, except we would have great depth at rb and not enough safeties to have a legitimate 2 deep.

Next year we have Deon, RJ and JC at safety. That's it, and that's a big problem. We need a stud safety, maybe 2 in this class unless someone already on the team moves there.

UM fans are weirdos. That's what's wrong. Alabama signs three 5 star RBs every year, yet if we even think of doing it we gotta switch them all to some other position (even though we are woefully inadequate at RB right now). UM fans love two things: 1. switching players' positions; 2. talking about redshirting players.

Well that is besides the point............
The statement was about RBs and RBs alone, we obviously have depth issues at safety and that is a separate convo.

Powell offers a lot of versatility as he could probably make an impact as a DB as well, just like the kid a lot woth the ball in his hands and figure he could be scary good with another 10 pounds. I was simply asking if he has the frame to carry that additional weight. Some kids, Crawford was one, bulk up too quick or put on bad weight and it effects their speed and quickness.

Powell will be a nightmare with the ball in his hands. He's a game-changer. People comparing him to Dallas Crawford are way off base because they're too totally different players. Dallas never had and never will have Powell's skills no matter what weight either guy is. Dallas is a very good football player, but he doesn't have the moves or skills that Powell has.

And Derrick Henry is probably going to end up being wasted at the position.

Not even looking at positional depth, Cook has incredible potential as a defensive back (as well as RB, obviously), and not considering that potential at a position other than RB would be a foolish thing to do. And when you consider we have Duke/Dallas/Gus on the roster and Yearby/Powell committed, if we were to add a Cook to the class, given our depth at safety and his potential on that side of the ball, considering him playing there is hardly something overly farfetched.

If we sign Yearby and Powell this year, and then one of the top 2 backs in Florida next year, all of a sudden we're really good at the position. So what harm exactly would there be in having an elite athlete on the defensive side of the ball at a position that seems much more thin atm?

Dalvin reminds me of Stefon Johnson (USC) when he came out. Many analyst said he could be a 5 star at either RB or Safety. I think Cook is that dynamic of an athlete. He is a homerun waiting to happen. Doesn't mean he will be the best RB in college or that Powell isn't a stud in his own right: he is. I just think right now, Cook is a step above everyone else.

Hope he doesn't end up at UF because I think he will be wasted there and will never develop.

Game-changers is what you're looking for if you want to win championships. Cook is a potential homerun hitter at RB. Dallas isn't. You need to move game-changers into positions where you currently have good but not spectacular players if you're looking to win championships. You need to constantly be looking to upgrade your roster to championship level, and our RB position, as it is currently composed, is nowhere near that level.

Safeties can't be game changers? We have terrible safety depth and a huge lack of prospects at the position. Meanwhile, we have a stud in Yearby and a very good player in Powell committed at RB. How would adding an athlete of Cook's caliber at DB not be upgrading the roster to championship level?

I just think if Miami does get Dalvin Cook, which i doubt, then one of these running backs has to move to defense.

Cook makes the most sense b/c he has the size to lay the wood on top of his elite speed.

Trayone Gray at safety, Dalvin Cook as a corner would be ideal for me.

Next season Miami is going to have to have room for the next group of RBs that want to commit to UM, so it makes no sense to try to fill out a backfield w/ RBs all in 1 class when there are still wholes to be filled on defense.
