What makes you say that?

The tone. The way they talk about Shalala. The focus or lack thereof on athletics.

Uh...it's the presidential search committee, right? The focus of the committee SHOULD lack discussion about athletics.

When they ask us what we would like in our next President- athletic focus should be in there. All we are talking about are academics.

Condi was provost at MFing Stanford!

You don't need to talk about athletics. Push her academics to them
Push notoriety and experience. We are international school. She was Secretary of State!

/don't need to bring up sports. Condi considered cor sec commish is enough

condi has the academics qualifications plus she is obsessed with football. she would probably hire the best staff imaginable

Fun fact.

Condi was Provost of Stanford from 1993 to June of 1999.

They'd had some decent success on the field for 91 and 92, the 2 years immediately preceding her becoming the provost They also had some decent success in 1999 and 2001, 2 of the 3 seasons immediately after her being provost.

They sucked balls during her tenure as provost. They also made the mistake of hiring Ty Willingham, a guy pretty comparable to Randy Shannon.

Not sayin'...I'm just sayin'....

Herrera. Make sure to link rice to shalala in pushing. Both prominent presidential cabinet members for two termers.
We swung for fences for Donna. Let's do it again for Condi

That sort of bs

A provost is in charge of academics and research. It's like a VP. They don't oversee all departments

Quick question, Wherrera...

UF just went through the search process for a new prez. They hired the current provost at Cornell; he'd also held admin positions at Purdue and the U of Illinois. All of these are pretty great academic institutions with moderate to nonexistent football/athletic programs. It's roundly considered an exceptional hire, especially in comparison to FSU's recent hiring of John Thrasher as their next prez.

Do you really think that their hiring committee discussed the candidate's devotion to and vision for athletics in detail?

No not at all. Which is what I guess frustrates us.

What do you mean by Condoleza Rice? Is she a candidate?[/QUOTE]

I wish she was a candidate. Black, female, conservative...... doesn't get any better than that.

Not to mention, loves football.

I understand that. But given her life-long interest in sports and her position as VP, I'm sure she was at least consulted on matters concerning hiring a multi-million dollar coach.

Stop what?

Look, I'm not saying that she was responsible for Willingham's hire or for the decline in the football program while she was there. I'm trying to point out that anyone looking to Condi Rice as some sort of godsend who would turn our football team around is being pretty silly.

The point is that higher-level admins like presidents and VPs don't really have a whole lot of influence on the outcomes on the field. They listen to the BOT and search committees and make hires for Athletic Directors...who then listen to search committees and the BOT to hire coaches. So by the time the candidates' names get to the prez, they've already been vetted by the BOT, the search committee, and the AD. The prez more or less rubber-stamps the hire based on their recommendation.

Bottom line is that if the BOT wants Golden to stay--which seems likely now that we're performing a bit better--he'll stay. And Condi Rice wouldn't/couldn't do a **** thing to change that.

After Donna's reign of football destruction, I'll take Foote back-- and I almost punched the smuck. I'll settle for someone who doesn't hate the football team. All we need is one accidentally decent coach.

You said their coach sucked while she was there and they surely consulted her bc she likes football

Willingham was hired away by Notre Dame. Shtty coaches usually aren't hired away by Notre Dame. So he might've sucked at ND but he didn't at Stanford.

He was .549 at Stanford. To compare Harbaugh was .585 and Walsh was .580

And I seriously doubt they asked the provost about any AD hire just bc she likes football. But if the impossible did occur, and we assume she picked TW and they all said "wow! Good thing we asked the provost!" And went w her choice (LMFAO), she picked a good coach

Only comparison bn Shannon and willingham is their skin color

I realize you've reversed course but if your original premise that Stanford consulted Condi on football HC hires is correct then she helped bring back Bill Walsh and hired TW who was hired away by the Domers.

I didn't say their coach sucked. I said their program sucked. And it did.

Walsh was there for 3 years. His first was before Condi was provost; he won 10 games that year. He was a total of 7 game th next two seasons, which were Condi's first two there.

Willingham steps in and takes over in 1995. He'd never been an HC before...he was a solid position coach with no HC experience. He got Stanford 7 wins in each of his first two years, then tanked and won a total of 8 games over his next two years (1997 and 1998)...which were also Condi's last two years as provost. She left in '99, before the football season.

Shannon's winning pctg was .560. Willingham's was .549.

Yeah, the only comparison there is their skin color.:fistbump2:
