on The Canesport call in podcast a caller indicated that Alonzo Highsmith had expressed interest in miami’s AD position if it became available.

He also discussed how there seems to be disagreement within the BOT on the direction of the program, with two members pushing hard to get Cristobal, and fairly upset that a legitimate search wasn’t performed by Blake.

He also detailed Blake James’ ascension into the AD role. He certainly doesn’t seem qualified now, or when he was initially hired.

Just passing along the info.

At the end of the day, what I take is that the only hope for real change is for Manny to continue crapping the bed and we lose out. That’s my opinion

If true, at least it's a start. Hoping we are put out of our misery with Blake James in the next couple of months but who really knows at this point.

Hope I'm wrong but I don't think Manny is losing his job after one season, even if they get blown out the rest of the games this season.
I think the earliest is end of next season. However, I think there is a good chance Blake might be pushed out sooner. At least I hope so.

You are correct brother.

I would say that Highsmith is not qualified to be AD, then I starting laughing -- like that has ever stopped BOT from hiring what idiot they saw. So, I'm good with Highsmith. Maybe he will bring Butch in, if only to be CEO of recruiting and player development. Manny can be HC in charge of pressers, pep rallies, hype and bling.

Only Miami fans would cry incessantly about hiring a coach with no experience only to clamor for an AD with none because he was here when the football team was good 30 years ago. Never change, fellas.

dont want highsmith near the program as an AD. we need to poach the UCF AD. if you guys are done waiting for the dude to learn on the job, then get someone w experience. get the UCF guy in here and let him do what he did for UCF

I'm fully aware of his resume. Manny Diaz was in line to be a CFB HC soon as well, no?

This fanbase is indescribably retarded.

manny was the next hot candidate. in hindsight, it didnt work out, but when you go for the up and comers, thats what happens. sometimes you get lucky and soemtimes you dont. if you want experience, you gotta pay for experience and go with the guy that has proven to be successful elsewhere. highsmith is manny and blake. hes a better football mind than blake (no kidding), but he would still be learning how to run an athletic dept (there are more sports than just football). ucfs danny white (i think its his name) made a home run hire for their basketball program (hes gonna lose the guy to duke when K is gone but thats the reality) and he made a great hire in frost (up and comer with nO HC experience but he hit right). not sold on heuphal but the results are fine so far.

I love Highsmith, and what he has done in the NFL is extremely impressive.

That said, if we're going to save this program, you need to find an AD who has outperformed in that role somewhere already, specifically in the area of identifying coaches and producing wins. Certainty UCF jumps out, but look across the Top 25, there are a number of schools producing with far weaker brands and recruiting bases. That said, we're kidding ourselves that UM would go outside the box and pay any attention to these schools.

I mean...gun to your head if somebody said "Blake or Alonzo right now or..." I'm going with Alonzo before they finish the sentence.

At least he'd give a **** and that's a big step up.

the issue really is that the BOT runs the entire show not the AD at UM. theyre the ones pushing for the coaches and making the decisions not the AD. blake is a puppet. if the next AD has the same role as the current one in terms of power, then were still ****ed.

1. Sure, at a sub-par school. See Temple.

2. Haven't we learned this before about hiring from a failed regime?

yes but we also have a BOT that cares more abotu their interests than the interests of the school and a puppet AD bc that BOT wont let someone else make decisions. id go after danny white and have him go ari on the BOT. then id let him fire everybody in the football dept and have him start it from the ground up

Yeah, let's bring in Highsmith as AD. Then, we hire Chud as head coach, Dorsey to run the offense, Dan Morgan the defense, Reed secondary and special teams, Moss wide receivers.

Sorry, if look around, ex-players and coaches aren't ADs today. ADs are typically pencil-neck business guys. Few of them ever played the game.
