We've talked about this in previous seasons but I don't think it's come up this year.

I'm rewatching the Duke game and when the camera panned on Jonathan Brewer, Duke OC, watching the action from up in the booth, the conversation by the announcers turned to what he was seeing. It struck me how easy it is for OC's to dissect Guidry's defense from above.....Especially when he does the same thing play after play.

I know Dawson prefers to be on the sidelines to talk to his QB, etc.

Guidry is also on the sidelines.

I wonder how many of our opponents have at least one of their OCs up in the booth.....

Is it an advantage for opposing OC's to be upstairs against Guidry?

It shouldn't matter anymore as everyone has tablets on the sidelines. It just appears that since we don't make adjustments until halftime, that our D coaches can't use a tablet. Cam Ward can use one, thankfully. I absolutely believe it is having an affect on games this season for teams that have accepted change.

That's not true. I saw Guidry with a tablet at the Duke. It was stone and he had a little hammer and chistel too

There is virtually nothing an offense can't decipher about any defense pre-snap, that's why defensive football is a lot harder. All you have is alignment, assignment and execution. Make a mistake in anyone one of those and the offense has a 90% probability of winning that play.

Having the tablets like nfl does eliminates some of the advantages from the booth

Why is it that we never see who is upstairs in the booth for Miami. Is it time for a personnel of substance on offense and defense to be upstairs in the booth.

I think Dawson especially with his calm demeanor and play calling style belongs in the booth. He can see what is happening down on the peach better and adjust on the fly instead of waiting until half time to adjust. He can observe formations better from the booth and adjust better on the fly.

Mario needs to address the booth and special teams in 2026 as we kick it up a notch.

I get an OC who is also the QB coach wanting to be on the sideline. I do think there is a lot of value seeing it up high but with the iPads instantly having everything it may be less impactful.

I don’t think tablets replace an OC in the booth. In a booth, the OC is watching alignment and reaction in real time and making a play call.

On the sideline, the OC is watching realtime, then reviewing the tablet, adding time to call the next play.
How many times did we have delay of game or rushed snaps because the play call was late coming in?

This is something that can easily be studied. Look at points scored (or other key metrics like yards, efficiency, EPA, success rate) from booth v field at NFL.

Doubt there is any evidence that one is superior than the other so it becomes preference
