The Pearson- Mahoney hooks ups were epic for want of better words and memorable.

I was Mahoney 1st floor guard of stair well in 85& 86- loved the stairs b/c faster than elevator
We did all that stuff mattress slides with talcum, had a rager hid a keg in my suite Marie closet then some lit a doobie and we got written up
I also renege the roof white “tar beaxh” there were the usual suspects up there daily— the hotties who didn’t have time for the pool lots of eye candy

They had the best spread for students that didn't go home for Thanksgiving. All you can eat, everything homemade, all for free.

Once we figured out you could stuff a mattress into the door well, fill in some small gaps, and you'd have an airtight seal, things really got fun. We smoked out hard in that room and never had any issues. Slept in one room, partied and hung out in the other. Good times.

It was the den.............but how about the BK runs...........late night orders for 20 Whoppers and they would say " Oh sh** not you again, and how many this time........and no I do not want you asking about football tickets either for your buddies"......

true.... and found out those windows were the right size to climb out and get out of Dodge.......downside was that ALL of Pearson could see your exit, and there is just one of the huge advantages of first floor at Mahoney...and second no **** elevator waiting. One door and you are in.

Huge plus also for friends to get on the floor pass the front desk............

Jonny......we stashed Boones Farm and Ripple on #1 so that we could move them around and keep them moving if we had to. through the stairwells.......those were the days..........

i can't believe they are gone. adios amigo mio. i left a fair share of DNA there even though i never lived there. Rush week was always a blast

Uhhhhh...that was me and a couple of my fraternity brothers. The Wometco machines were particularly susceptible to the "MD" or Magic Dollar. We didn't use a playing card, we just put scotch tape all over both sides of the dollar, but long enough that we had enough tape to pull the dollar back out again.

Once we figured out that 60% of the time it worked all the time, our first big effort was on the Turnpike. We were going up to Hogtown for a fraternity softball tournament, and we hit every Turnpike rest stop. Once you could empty out one of the Wrigley's gum slots, you could get 4 quarters back for every Magic Dollar.

We cleaned out every vending machine on the Turnpike and paid for our hotel room and meals in quarters. It was glorious. When we got back to UM, we hit a bunch of machines, and we tried to be judicious about it so that nobody would catch on. Unfortunately, another fraternity spotted what we were doing and they made a mess of things because they were so stupid. They were so focused on the money that they would let all the snacks pile up in the bottom so that you couldn't even open the door. Eventually, UM caught on and changed out all of the machines.

Good times...

****....I was gonna say, we definitely did NOT have that hack in the late 90s, because I would have CLEANED UP on the Fruitopia machines in Mahoney-Pearson.

Disagree. The Mahoney-Pearson roof had the best view (although I know you mean rooms, so technically Pearson 7Long on the north side had my favorite view. I agree Eaton lake view was awesome). We used to go up the back stairs (from the Long hall) all the way to the top, then had a little hack to unlock the door to get to the roof, and smoke pot at night. Gorgeous view of downtown, little bit of Key Biscayne, Coral Gables. Those nights where the sky was that perfect blend of purple, orange, pink, a bit of aqua, all the colors swirled together, and the weather was just perfectly breezy and warm but not overly humid...I miss it so much.

I knew guys that did this too, since there were only three of them in the suite. They also snuck some adorable kittens in to keep as pets and of course brilliantly used them to get girls to come up to their room.

That's exactly it. I remember when my family dropped me off, and I was on my own for the first time in my life. I was barely 17 years old, and was nervous, scared, excited, thrilled, and naive as ****. My roommate and I had moved in early the week before everyone else for some reason (think she had an interview for something? I forget now...), and I got in before her, so I unpacked and then decided to take a walk around and explore. I felt at home and so proud to be independent and on my own, and I had already fallen so in love with the campus and everything about it.

It's funny, I tried showing my husband the post from UM on IG last night where they were memorializing Mahoney-Pearson, as well as all the nostalgic comments. He just didn't get it and thought we were ridiculous. Guess it's just a Canes Thing.

Anyone here old enuf to remember “sub connection” they were always hauling *** to Mahoney/pearson- for those late night feeds when you didn’t wanna schlepp across the street to Dennys or BK….
