Bon Voyage Mahoney & Pearson Residential Colleges

I was told in May by a few athletic department peeps that the football operations center was not going to be built. Have things changed?

It will be built. Nothing has changed, in either direction.

"Athletic Department peeps" is a wide range of individuals, some who know, and some who don't know.
 
Won’t beat a dead horse but I was told the following:

- money focus to lift up Olympic sports;
- no new sports will be added, including women’s softball; and,
- no football operations building in the near/mid term.

Instead money will be focused on “supporting the student athlete”

Just relaying what I was told. I guess we will see.
 
I see a few fellow third-floor Mahoney peeps here... can't remember my room number. Second year, I was in apt 34-A which was demolished many years ago. Plastic/vinyl furniture we just took outside and hosed off if anybody puked on it. Good times!!

Don't know the number but I was in those apartments they tore down way back when. That vinyl furniture was classic. I actually had a whole apartment to myself for a semester because all three of my planned roommates never made it back.

Yeah, and none of that is really true. I understand some people saying that (i.e., "please contribute now for the collective and other sports, please!"), but that is not reflective of our goals here, at least the ones expressed to bigger alums/donors/boosters.

We will absolutely, positively be adding new sports when we join the Big 10. As such, we will need more space than what is currently in Hecht.

There are a lot of chess pieces on the board with UM land use, and the ordering of things may be rearranged. But we have approval to build, and once you get that from Coral Gables, you never give it back.

There is no way in **** that THIS is the roster of sports we are bringing to the Big 10, and it also flies in the face of the very significant and expensive student body survey that was just done a few months ago (to gauge interest in new sports).

Mens swimming would be a great add if that's on the table. Good amount of Big 10 schools have it and would be pretty cool

I’ve heard speculation on BIG 10 courting or is pursuing- but with the events afoot in the SEC unless they’re saber rattling- it sounds like they’re well down the road to breaking out from the current model/ and similar rumors about pursuing additional teams- speculation again.

I ran track my roommate’s were a swimmers and had a one on one with radakocitch at ****tail party at Lennar Center deck- said they’d have to be pulling in multiple millions just to reintroduce men’s swimming and it’s not in their plans

We had men's swimming until Dave "Maggot" Maggard killed it. Plus the men's golf team.

Those are two easy adds from a "facilities" standpoint (nobody's golf team really plays at an "on-campus" course).

BUT...then we need to add women's sports too. I know we have been actively looking for a women's softball location. THAT would be a good option for an "across Red Road" facility.

Look, Radakovich is a ***** and his words are not to be trusted.

He also told a big alums/big donors luncheon group back in 2022 (yes, I was in attendance) that we should be REDUCING the seating capacity at Mark Light, not expanding it. Wanna bet if THAT is ever gonna happen?

I don't know what in the actual **** Rad is talking about. What would we need to spend for men's swimming? We already have the facilities. Sure, we'd need to pay a coach. And we have rev-share money and adidas NIL money that can start to pay for men's swimming NIL. On top of that, we'd have to get back to creating endowed scholarships, like the one that my former roommate (men's diving team) had when he was at UM. Not sure why he is acting like that is an impossibility, particularly once the Big 10 money comes in.

You want to see a picture of a lonely, worthless Athletic Director, who is not using our biggest bowl game in years to wine-and-dine potential donors? Here is Rad at the Pop-Tart Bowl, doing a helluva lot of nothing. I was in the KPMG suite, and at least one other poster on this board can also tell you that Rad was nearly isolated for the entire game.

What a waste of a suite.

I really don’t disagree- he was lazy & a do nothing collecting a check for a couple years had no interest in dong anything that involved work— with that said.
The only things that you didn’t cite as far as expenses- 2 coaches, travel expenses for 15-20 athletes, and additional travel for conference meets away, championship meets, and NCAAs if anyone qualifies

My buddy ex swimmer proposed “what if to kick it off I could access a million by myself- could the university match funds-?” he poo/pooled it out of hand for reasons stated.

First, I agree with you on travel expenses, though I thought that swimming/diving often has multi-team group meets, not just head-to-head. But it's a fair point.

Second, what you say about someone proposing a donation...and being turned down...is QUITE SADLY the experiences many have had under both Beta Blake and Dud Radakovich.
 
Is that spooky place that was across the street from Mahoney-Pearson still there? I think it was some sort of religious housing.

Not if, but when. That’s awesome. Hopefully it will be for a full share à la USC versus half share (Oregon), especially since we’ll need to buy out the ACC at $75 million.

Are they planning to release the results of the sports survey or will they keep it internal?
