Bon Voyage Mahoney & Pearson Residential Colleges

I wasnt there but my lord my apartment in South Miami in hindsight while going there for graduate school was a deathtrap.
 
Lived on Mahoney 4th floor for a year back in '83. At the end of the semester we dumped baby powder on the floor in hallway and had mattress races! I still remember my parents coming to get me/help move out and they could not believe how trashed the place was...
 
Mahoney 2nd floor

RA on other side was Jenny the midget doctor from tv. She was always on that scooter.

Wiffle ball games

Smoking weed and blowing the smoke out of a paper towel dispenser with dryer sheets in it.

I’m sure you remember that Pearson and Mahoney were the choice dorms in our time because we had the 2 room suites with the bathroom in between. How things have changed.

Yup. My freshman year was 1991 and we had a family member that was there, and she tipped us off that Mahoney-Pearson was the way to go at that time.

Still can't believe I got Pearson as a freshman, and a non athlete at that. Turned in my housing deposit late, still got my first choice!

• The Whitten Learning Center - GOOD RIDDANCE. For those who may have been UM students in the mid-1980s, you may recall being warned (by upperclassmen) that the LC bathrooms were comparable to certain rest stop bathrooms. If you catch my meaning.

• Toppel Career Center - wasn't this just built? Along the outside of the UC, by the cul-de-sac? If so, where is it going? It seems strange to just tear down PART of a building.

• Meyer Law Administration (A) - for those who don't know, this is the self-standing (but connected) building in the law quadrangle that is closest to the Otto G. Richter Library. I had a couple of classes in this building, but it was also home to the deans' offices (at least in the 1990s). I assume we are building "taller" in that same spot. And, obviously, "newer", which is good.

• Kearns Sports Hall of Fame - another weird one, since it is connected to other buildings not slated for demolition. I hope this is one of MANY improvements to "old Hecht Athletic Center", particularly given the (now possible) acceleration of the Football Ops Center.

I can't say I ever went in the bathrooms, but I had a few classes there. An odd mix of large and small theater style classes. They were the only large capacity classrooms at the time if memory serves.

There were actually some enormous classrooms in the Cox Science Center.

And, of course, Room 352 in the law school.
