BOLO out for Damon Wilson

I hated when we played country cover 3 to oblivion but it worked with Bain Mesi and Jakobe and Keionte.. We missing ALL that juice now and that country cover 3 look like FOOD for every avg QB to have career days..

I didnt even know you could run that anymore and now I see why.. Them boys were some DAWGS last year man.. Got Heatherman PAIDDDDD and Dawson should be fired still!
High school scheme man lol…never seen fire zones that don’t match, YIKES

This is basically his year 2. I’ve seen maybe some minor improvement with his hands, but he rarely wins with that way. We have people thinking our entire DL is leaving early and gonna get drafted in R1 or R2. LOL. Come on, man. Too many pods and social media conclusions.
He’s stiff , lacks bend and explosion for De. At best he’s a hybrid but inside is his best spot. We just don’t have much depth to not have him outside. It’s the opposite of Mesidor in 2024 playing inside.
Wilson, Pickett, Scroggins can do what Blount is doing. He’s the weakest link on the DLine although Justin Scott is a couple more clips of running backs pushing him past the first down marker plays away from making that a tight battle.

Back to Blount —- This feels to me like a kid is saying he wants to play End, not the other way around,

But you know more than me. So if you say that’s not the case, I’ll believe it.

1 tackle combined in the last 3 weeks. Dude cashed in and quit like Tyler Baron in 2024
You sure it’s that or we’re not playing him?

Again, all 3 sacks happened when he entered the game and he was doubled on the first.

Also he was had 2-3 pressures himself and forced the rollout on the 3rd sack by Scroggins who btw I didn’t see play a lot either.

The front in this defense is not a traditional 3-4 nor is it a 4-3. It is a stop the run with alignment first front that requires the DEs to be pass rushers AND run stuffers. Their base alignment is INSIDE the tackles. It's why Wilson doesn't impact games much bc he can't play the base DE position for us. He's an OLB in a traditional 3-4. Our base front has been extremely good against the run this year again, but not having two NFL guys there means there is zero base pass rush, and I mean ZERO. Only time it happens is when we play the pass rush unit and blitz. If we start ONLY doing that, you'll see us get run on.

It's probably why they raved about the OL this summer too, they were probably not giving up anything in the pass in practice.
That’s not true either. These fronts are made to be hybrid fronts specifically so you can switch from even to odd man fronts. What would kill it would be staying in a 3 man front like we did today.

Lightfoot is an insane player and has top 15 pick type of talent.

I truly think the guy could switch to linebacker and provide the same traits as Arvell Reese.

Damon, ya he goes incognito week to week.
Why? He's an edge defender who creates pressure on most plays.
He pushed the LT back into Edwards multiple times tonight. He's 240 now with room to grow. If he comes bsck, he could be Colin Simmons

Oh, I have no idea. D$ told me last year they projected him inside, but I just haven’t seen him win inside with anything other than hustle. I have no idea what he wants. I have no idea what the coaches want. I do know what I see, and we better make some aggressive decisions very soon.

I mean i get what you are saying for sure, but the base front he uses is 4i (inside shoulder of RT) / Nose over the center / 4i (inside shoulder of the LT).

Damon Wilson plays none of those techniques. So to get him on the field they HAVE to play what essentially is a 4-3 with him as a standup DE. Limits what they can do if they do that every down, and clearly they value the versatility over having him play every down.

I’m not saying he can’t rush the passer dude lol.

But he looks to have major off ball ability as well. The run and hit trait.

Heatherman has realized this and that is why he’s dropping back into coverage when the other side is overloaded.

He rarely drops into coverage anymore and the only reason he got caught in coverage Rz was because of an audible by Edwards.
You don't drop an edge who consistently disrupts the pocket.
Hes not fluid in space like Reese.
Hes an edge all day.

this stretch of three games in a row of our defense $hitting the bed is exactly like the Lou/SMU stretch last year where the team went T!t$ up for 2-3 games. the difference being we'e still undefeated. although I am not sure we deserve to be.

That’s a lot of bad points and arguments to unpack this late at night.

I’m not saying drop him in coverage at Miami, this year. I am saying that he can play as an off ball jack of all trades in the nfl.

F that, Heatherman drops him into coverage. I’ll take his opinion over yours.

i was gonna say blount **** near younger than Toney....and like u saw last year most of the plays he made was his motor not any technique sutuff. dude is still growing into his body...i always knew he was a tweener type in that chad thomas type mold but not better pass rush moves as chad but probably a better motor.

I dont know why they were expecting Bain out of blount pre szn.
Chad Thomas? More like Keona Davis...neither play that big or explosively really.

Yes

Out of position.
He’s playing the right position; he’s just not performing. How can you say he’s out of position when the position you’re referring to is his natural position requires him to add 20–25 lbs, at least 15. That’s a significant physical adjustment, and not as easy as it sounds.

We’ll see what happens, he’s still young. Regardless he needs to perform better.
