Blissett now a DE

Going to cite some of @Lance Roffers work to show why this is disappointing.

From the test #'s and comps, Bllissett is elite athletically as a defensive tackle...

Maybe he has trouble putting on weight, or at the point of attack? To show you how athletic he is he's still above average athletically for all conference defensive ends. There's no word how he faired last year at the POA inside? If he had the strength to play the position he has the athleticism of a star.

Was he told to slim down because they didn't like what they saw at DT?
Did he have trouble putting on weight so they were forced to move him outside?
Strange situation

-----

DT-
279 pounds, 5.15 40, 4.72 SH, 38’ Powerball, 28” Vertical, 88 SPARQ

DE- 235 pounds, 4.98 40, 4.58 SH, 38’ Powerball, 33” Vertical, 94 SPARQ

Jason Blissett- 271 pounds, 5.13 40, 4.40 SH, 38’ Powerball, 30” Vertical, 94.44 SPARQ, 85th percentile

"Here are the players that weighed 250+ pounds who ran a faster short shuttle than Blissett and his 4.40 SH (my database started in 2014 when numbers became more available):

Derek Barnett- 1st round pick, All-American, and broke Reggie White's school sack record at Tennessee.
Solomon Thomas- 1st round pick and All-American at Stanford.
Joshua Paschal- Class of '17 player already starting for Kentucky and produced sacks against Tenn and Vanderbilt as a freshman.
James Lynch- ESPN freshman All-American last year for Baylor.
Gerald Willis- Miami's best DL and off to a crazy good start.
Rashan Gary- All-American at Michigan will be a very high pick this year.
Neville Gallimore- #11 on college football's "freaks list" at Oklahoma and looks to be a high pick.
Antonio Alfana- Freak show DT commit for Alabama. #1 in 40, SH, Vertical, SPARQ."

wow he won’t play another season hun. Maybe your right because Harvey was an animal in the bowl game against Louisiana tech And you watched him practice against the first offense on scout team last year. Maybe the staff knows something we don’t. Let’s see how the spring pans out cuz the kid had high level offers out of Highschool
I mean not play another season as in like a redshirt year not never see the field

I’m still scratching my head at posters submitting JPhillips name into the 2021 NFL draft already and he hasn’t played football in 2 years! Lol.

Well I’ll double down on that Hot Take..if Phillips played so well that he enters the draft...our defense was top 5 in the country. I don’t see a kid like that leaving unless he’s a first rounder. So yeah..our defense was the **** and he, GR15 and Roche all went ape$hit at DE rushing the passer.. I’ll take that!
There’s gotta be a less than 1% chance Phillips enters the draft in ‘21. He’s behind roche and rousseau, we got other guys competing for pt also, he’s just coming back from a couple years off....

He was set to play at DE in the bowl game (maybe even start). Got hurt in the bowl game practices so we didn’t see it.

Couldn’t keep the weight on. No matter what he did, he just couldn’t do it.

The switch was something he wanted.

Like I thought hope he handles business in his new role

What do you think that does to his ceiling now?

Lowers it quite a bit. He's got the strength and quickness to be an edge setter at DE, but they're going to want elite athleticism at that spot and he's going to have a hard time beating out Phillips and Harvey for the backup jobs.

Doesn't mean he can't do it, as he still profiles like a James Lynch at Baylor, who played edge a lot for that defense.

This IS be most nastiest DE crew since Rusty Curry years .
They’ll a new check off for opposing QB “O ****E , O ****E

GOCANES

He in a sense would be pretty **** athletic if he’s placed in the dt position. However at dend he’s not considered anywhere near as athletic and that’s the reality of the situation

Depth at DT becomes a concern without Martin, Blissett, Roberts, Moise.

Did Cleveland Reed play any defense in HS?

im not as concerned about DT depth. Ford, Silvera, Miller, Harrison-Hunte and Jolley are fine as a top 5. Plus I wouldn’t be shocked if we have Rousseau at DT with Phillips and Roche at end on third and long

The top 5 is solid. If Phillips, Rousseau, Blissett can stay around 260 then they can move inside if we're in a pinch. Just would feel more comfortable with 6 DTs on the rooster.

I loved him as an athletic DT at around 290. Not sure how his athleticism translates to DE. Maybe he was having trouble adding good weight.
He’s still growing this gives him chance to see the field as early as next season...

develop more pass rush moves while being able to slide inside to 3tech on long downs (similar to Chad Thomas)

he still might get that move to 3tech his RsJr/SR year

Dont mind him being a set the edfe strong side End. His overall plaing weight probably sits around that 260 -265 range...so it may work out for him...we got a bunch of light in the *** guys at end already he may be able to be a rotation guy next season. This season want him to just learn and travel with the team again, maybe play some on specials and spot games.

yeah the only ends with some size are Greg and Phillips. Roche is about 230lbs but that weight can drop after summer camp. Temple runs a lot of tight end sets which could be problematic for small ends who speciality is just rushing the passer

I’d be curious to see how patient he is in regards to playing time. This year I can see some but maybe not a significant amount at dend, however next year there is obviously a path for more time imo

I really can't understand this. He's had a year in the program. The weight training and meal planning should have added 20-30 lbs of muscle even when cutting bad weight resulting in the same weight, but less body fat.

Somewhere there is a disconnect between him, Feeley, and the nutritionalist.

He was listed as a de all the way back before the bowl game so maybe this had been in the works
