Blame the ACC

If we’re honest, the ACC doesn’t deserve two.

You can make that argument about a bunch of teams though in this format. Until they get rid of the conference title game/automatic qualifier process then we are stuck with 5 auto spots. It’s imperfect.

This system requires more tweaks, obviously. But can tweak it till blue in the face & will always be debate & controversy - which is good for business as brings eyeballs & spotlight. Programs would still feel slightly if went to 16 or even 25 team field. Current issue is lack of transparency & trust as the system is heavily influenced by the Big Ten & especially the SEC, ESPN/Disney & even down to the level of CAA, which reps a good number of top coaches & on-air media talent.
