Blame talent not coaching

Let me state before the majority of this board gets their panties in a bunch, I have no idea how Miami will be under Diaz. But I love how fans are torching him but fail to realize the talent is severely lacking this year.

As of now scouts have 1 player currently who could go as high as the 4th round DeeJay. The two linebackers are late day 3 picks. As far as the Juniors on this team. Garvin and Bandy are boarderline day 3 to undrafted right now. Jeff Thomas undrafted.

Why can’t Miami fans be patient. Are they really stuck in the early 2000’s. Did Richt give you false hope cause of a unicorn year filled with mass turnovers forced and lucky bounces. The majority of the talent we have are pups. They need time to get in a real strength and conditioning program. 6 months for the new guy wasn’t going to make a huge difference although some of the transformation are noticeable, give him another year.

Be a part of the solution and not the problem. Quit bi***ing and support the team and don’t hang on every single word someone makes. It’s petty. This was a rebuilding year no matter what way you slice it from the day we started Zion at left tackle. I’m excited for the future and next years team.

There is no excuse next year, plain and simple. Go Canes.

How many straight years have we heard this argument? Is our talent level worse than GT, NC, VT, and all of the other middling teams we've lost to during that time? Is our talent level only 5 points better than CMU, which went 1-11 in the MAC last season? Clearly, we don't have the talent of the late 80s and late 90s/early 00s teams, but we have a lot more talent than the majority of teams we've lost to since then. That points pretty squarely to deficiencies in coaching, not to even mention the fact that the teams we've fielded over the last 15 years were and still are fundamentally unsound, undisciplined, out worked, flabby and lazy, and inconsistent. If the teams we've fielded played hard, played fundamentally sound, didn't take stupid penalties, and didn't have a whole bunch of infighting going on in the locker room, and then just got beaten by better teams, then we could all just go back to complaining about crappy recruiting and SEC bagmen. Wake me up when that happens.

Sure let me blame Brevin Jordan for his coach calling a tight end jet sweep to the short side of the field. Let me blame a true freshman OT for his coach leaving him out on an island against redshirt seniors and graduate transfers. Let me blame our secondary for their coach calling delay blitzes from across the street that never get there on time. Man you are crazy if you think this coaching staff has done these kids any good in their development. We are starting to become the school where you come with first round talent and leave undrafted or in the later rounds. You want to know why kids go to other schools that is a big reason why. If you are not gonna pay me at least develop me and let me get that first or second day money. We do neither so kids follow the money all day.
Blast a coach for a play but that same game Pope drops a bomb for a TD and we don’t hear a peep. This *hit is both ways. Blame the soft kids who think they are better than they are. There are reports that older class men are waiting for the draft. Who are these kids? They all stink.

we have had more talent then every team we've played with exception of Florida which you could make an argument that we had more talent then them so NO you're wrong

Who is talented? You are getting potential and talent mixed up my friend.

Do you think it’s that we lack talent... or that we lack development of proper placement. If you look at the players we have on our team... majority were highly ranked and dominating the high school ranks... even leading their teams to state championships. It’s hard to sell that Miami doesn’t have talent.

We have very little senior talent on this roster. We have an unremarkable amount of junior talent. The majority of our talent are sophomores, redshirt freshmen, or true freshmen.

The college team talent composite had us 17 preseason iirc, but I bet if you only looked at draft eligible talent, we wouldn't be in the top 30. Teams are led by their draft eligible talent.

Good post. The offensive line is probably the best example of what you are talking about.

This team’s most experienced offensive lineman is 3rd stringer Tommy Kennedy. Next is morbidly obese Donaldson (Junior). The only other Junior or Senior offensive lineman I can find with a scholarship is Herbert who is second string.

Fans on this site love to talk about freshman offensive linemen succeeding elsewhere without looking at who they are playing beside and who backs them up. This team has zero
experienced depth or experienced leadership at possibly the most important personnel group.

Miami need to redshirt more players, keep players on the team, and develop players.

From what I can find there are less than 15 seniors (12?) with scholarships on this team. There are less than 15 Juniors (13?) with scholarships on this team. There are 10-15 spots on this roster (not counting 10+ unused scholarships) where experienced players should be and they don’t exist.
You stated it better than I did. Well said!!!

Pointing to one play where a wr drops a pass doesn't prove anything. This is college the players will make mistakes. Happens on every team. Granted we drop a lot of passes... exactly, but how can that not be on coaching for it to consistently keep happening?

And that is the point that maybe some people are missing. The mistakes players are making, basic mistakes, same mistakes over and over again, fundamental mistakes, our players looking lazy or soft or "untalented", those things all might be true, but it still stems from coaching. These are kids who can be easily molded with the correct guidance. You see good coaches all over the country make quicker and better improvements with LESS talent then we have. Just look at how our players have done in the NFL even recently, it's obvious they were not utilized or developed the best while they were here.

It's up to the coaches to coach that laziness, entitled attitude out of them, teach good technique, put them in the proper spots to succeed, not just to expect them to come in all polished without any flaws. You really think bama or clemson or anyone else just magically finds the players who aren't that way? Spoiler alert, they are all that way but those coaches know how to, ya know, coach their players.

So we have less talent than GT, VT and UNC. We are also close in talent with CMU. Thanks for that OP, clears up a lot.

yeah what is this person saying?

a competent coach would be lighting up score boards in the Corstal.

we are losing to terrible teams and in dog fights with even worst teams.

Manny was handed the keys to a luxury car and drove it into the ground in a matter of months.

Take time to catch Bama sure. Take time to win Corstal NO.

If you need a coach to show you how to catch the ball as a division one player then we are severely fvcked
