Can't agree more on what people are saying about Blake, but still ridiculous to expect he's going to run out and dig up land and money to build a football stadium. Unfortunately, it's not gonna happen. Nor is he going to play a significant role in the on-going NCAA investigation and Infactions Committee hearing. This is being handled by folks above, so he's just along for the ride. No real role other than to be the program's face and put out the company line.
Here's his deal going forward:
-- Coaching contracts: Over the next year or two, he needs to put his imprint on the baseball program (Morris gracefully retires or gets fired). Even more important, Blake needs to make sure everything is done to keep Coaches Golden and L happy, that their contracts are extremely competitive, that assistants are taken care of and they have all the resources necessary to fight the fight. Needs to be proactive in doing everything possible to retain Golden.
-- Scheduling: Work hand-in-hand with the coaches to put together schedules that they think work best for their programs.
-- Facilities: Ok, an on-campus stadium is unrealistic, but do everything else and more to keep up with the big boys. Kids/recruits are, in part, sold now days by facilities. Don't ever be content with what you have. Push for an indoor practice facility. Work to make Joe Robbie a better home field, market and sell, get fannies in the stands.
-- Continue to enhance and push the Cane legacy, connecting with alumni and former players and coaches.
-- Show fans he has a pulse and fight for the program inside and outside the conference. Be a feisty Cane. On this count, he's light years ahead of his immediate predecessors.
