Blake James wqam interview

Does he believe what he is saying. Our fans enjoy seeing Famu? Fiu is a good series because miami doesn't have to pay airfare for the "away" game. And bringing fiu with their alumni base will add fans at the "home" game. Does he really believe this? Mom and pop shop. We are worried about airfare? And attracting other school'a fans to boost attendance rather than fixing our own issues. Applause Blake, applause!

These are the type of thread where it becomes the most obvious people just want something to complain about.
1. UM fans do like seeing famu. The stands were still full during the halftime show.
2. The UM athletic dept is on a tighter budget than Ohio st. So an fiu series financially makes a ton of sense. It's either that or pay a school $700,000 to come here and play. What makes more sense to you, a free game or paying someone?
3. Fix our problems? UM wasn't selling out when national titles were being won every other year. So it makes 100% sense to bring in a local team that will sell more tickets.

But continue with your factless rant. I'm sure I'll see you at the game Saturday.

You have to pay every team to come play in Miami? Since when?

Show me another school not FAU that will be a guaranteed W and is willing to give UM a home game and an "away" game that is actually a natural sight game and it doesn't cost us.

Yes, if you want any school in the world to come play at Miami without a return game it will cost money.

As a FAMU alum, the turnout was actually pretty **** good all things considered. The band will always draw a crowd. And to the people out there who said that we wouldnt get 35-40k for the FAMU game...yeah..you were dead a$$ wrong. I was there and there were definitely at least 38k there maybe 40k. Would I rather see them play FIU? Ahhhhh..not really. But thats just me. I dont see the point of them playing FAU either.

Wow i missed some gems tuning in late. The athletic department makes 60 million a year and will listen if somebody would build a 40,000 seat stadium near campus. How about you use one year of profits and build a 50 million dollar stadium at tropical park donate it to the city of miami w a 100 year lease at a dollar a year for UM? This is a joke.

Well, for one and unless I'm mistaken, the city of Miami doesn't own tropicL park. Second, the county has absolutely zero desire to sell tropical or lease it out. They were already out maneuvered by Santa's enchanted Forrest iirc, so they want to maintain all the control and money.

Man miami is a private school the U is a well known brand there should be no excuse for not having money to upgrade our program i don't care. We need to hire people that could get the job done im sick of all these excuses from the coaching staff on up. Its always the same story the students alumni and fans should be more demanding.

Apparently you don't realize that being a private, small/mid-size school is exactly why we don't have much money relative to a UF or Alabama. Add to that the fact that the school is placed in one of the most ridiculously restrictive cities in the country (Coral Gables) within a metro area where the politics rival most banana republics (Miami-Dade), and getting major facility projects done, on campus or off, is exceedingly difficult.

Ok, so just those who didn't hear it know the full context (hate him or love him if you want, dont care but selective info is not good).

He was asked about the power 5 conferences playing only against each other. He said, that if it came to that, he would vote in favor of that- meaning only playing teams of SEC/ACC/BIG12/BIG 10/PAC 12.

THEN he said, that is unlikely to happen because most of the schools require 7 HOME games for their program and budget, and thus it would be impossible to actually do that if all schools want 7 home games- it cant be done for obvious reasons. Every program would need to do 6/6 and then there would still be one oddball left out.

SO, since they will not be able to do that, he said he knows the school will HAVE to schedule teams that the fans ARE NOT EXCITED about at times to round out the scheduling challenges. So schools like FIU and FAMU, as much as I hate them on the schedule, do two things- they actually bring tickets sold, and reduce costs. And yes, FAMU is a school that some of fan bases like cause of the band at halftiime- thats why they get paid more to be beat up then other similar schools.

Context is everything. I am sick that we are playing FIU, if that is the need, i'd rather play FAU or whatever. But at least be aware of what the FULL context was and what he also owned up to.

Why do you have to schedule another FCS level guaranteed win team? You already have an ooc bunny on the schedule, and your conference is weak. Want to stir up fan interest? Try scheduling a good team where fans don't feel ripped off.

That's a whole other topic. If it were up to me I would allow one college preseason game and then not allow any 1-aa on the schedule.

Not to mention, IF you want to make the playoffs, you want to schedule tougher opponents to make up for the weak Conference. A one loss team in the ACC stands no chance with a one loss team in the SEC.

Does Flake James work for Gorlden or does Gorlden work for Flake?

Hard to tell with what comes outta James' mouth.

He really say this? There are probably more FIU alums w/ UM season tickets than those who attend an FIU game. FIU is lucky to get 50 sapingos to show up to a game.

Get this ***** out of my site with this ****

I heard two women next to me ask who we were playing. Once told it was Florida A&M, I'll pretend they were happy. That was first quarter, prior to every nearby row fully vacating at the start of halftime. One person in our party had a bad ankle, forcing her to remain in her seat at halftime. Otherwise every seat was vacant and not many returned for the second half. It was one of the most enjoyable departures ever from the stadium and the area due to so many fans leaving early.

Several guys near our seats were mocking Miami for scheduling Florida A&M: "Look who we're playing! Look who we're playing!" I heard that throughout the first three quarters, until all of them left. One of them continually insisted that Miami, "should beat this team by 72 points." I don't know how he came up with 72, but that's the only number I head from him all night.

I'm heartbroken over the state of the program and the lack of passion and candor from the president, athletic department and head coach. You don't deserve victory, you earn it. Things aren't given they are earned. How can people defend the indefensible? A strong athletic program would do wonders for the university. Imagine adding an actual college feel to um -- a gameday experience. That would attract students from all walks of life. Students that we see graduate and go out of state would have more affinity for the school. They would come back for games and most importantly DONATE. The school is being run by people who think things are given and not earned and don't want to invest the time, energy or effort to achieve something special that would propel the university to a level it's never seen in athletics and academics. No and can't are words that losers use. All I hear are excuses why things can't be done the right way.

For the record the erector set at UCF that seats 50k and is perfect for UM cost 55 mil estimated at 64 mil today. Naming rights alone to scoreboard stadium, sections and concourses would more than cover that.
