Here's 2018 for Louisiana Tech. I think overall a good defense, not a great defense compared to some of the other group of 5 defenses that just dominate their competition.
I've got confidence in Manny who hired this dude but when we got Manny I was all in, this one i'm unsure of and will have to let time tell. I'm assuming Manny wouldn't bring in anyone who would ***** up the success we're having on Defense and this guy's resume in terms of performance and results in certain metrics is very similar to Manny's. I

Louisiana Tech 2018 (including 129 FBS teams and all games played for every team)

Scoring Defense:
39th @ 22.9ppg
Rushing Defense: (YPC) 45th @ 3.96 ypc
Passing Defense: 29th @ 191 ypg
Total Defense: 27th @ 341 ypg
Sacks: 4th @ 3.46 per game
TFL: 12th @ 7.77 per game
Opp 3rd Down %: 33rd @ 35.3%
Opponent long rushing plays Over 10 yards: 71st @ 68 (miami 85th here)
Opponent long rushing plays Over 20 yards: 91st @ 22 (miami 75th)
Opponent long passing plays Over 20 yards: 58th @ 41 plays over 20 yards
Opponent long passing plays Over 30 yards: 18th @ 13 plays over 30 yards

Played two power 5 teams and not sure the results even matter. LA tech was out manned heavily (they did play LSU better than we did)

LA Tech vs Miss st.
Miss state wins 45-3, Miss state 532 yards and zero turnovers. LA tech had 3 sack and 5 TFL

LA tech vs LSU
LSU wins 38-28, LA tech out gained LSU 417 to 407, LSU had one turnover, LA tech had 2. LA tech had 1 sack and 4 TFL

If you take away those two games, which I believe is fair, It shows what I believe to be a bit more accurate of a picture of his defense. Very similar to Manny's tenure

I took out everyone's power 5 opponents and then ranked LA tech vs the other group of 5 schools to see how they were against similar competition over a bigger sample size.
Here is Group of 5 ranking for La Tech for the 10 games not including against power 5 opponents out of 64 teams*

LA tech 2018 vs non-power 5 teams ranked among 64 total non-power 5 teams
Scoring Defense: 8th
@ 19.9ppg
Rushing Defense: (YPC) 18th @ 3.73 ypc
Passing Defense: 11th @ 184 ypg
Total Defense: 8th @ 321 ypg
Yards per play given up: 10th @ 4.76 yards per play
Sacks: 3rd @ 3.6 per game
TFL: 5th @ 8.3 per game
Opp 3rd Down %: 6th @ 30.77%

these next one's are just to see how aggressive the defense is and how likely LA tech was to give up a big scrimmage play. Miami although a great defense, ranks poorly at these as well
Opponent long rushing plays Over 10 yards: 31st @ 51 rushing plays over 10 yards
Opponent long rushing plays Over 20 yards: 35th @ 16
Opponent long passing plays Over 20 yards: 24th @ 30 plays over 20 yards
Opponent long passing plays Over 30 yards: 10th @ 9 plays over 30 yards

OF NOTE* Jaylon Ferguson who plays at LA tech just broke Terrell Suggs FBS career sack record.

The scheme definitely causes mayhem as LA tech ranked among the nations best in TFL and Sacks. Very similarly to us in that aspect, I believe we won't see much of a change at all and Manny felt like this guy deserved to be the head honcho in charge over the two friends that were just recently promoted, which means he must have felt pretty **** strongly that this guys would be better for us.

Patke and banda have been with Diaz longer, as baker was only with him one year in a working capactiy (was a grad assistant at Texas for two years with Daiz) at La tech as the safeties coach for Diaz. He then took over DC as Diaz left to go to Mississippi state in 2015 before coming here.

If anything, we should be happy that we still have Manny who will FOR SURE have his hands on the defense as it's his pride and joy and we have three up and comers in patke, baker, and banda who have all be with diaz in 2-3 different schools learning exactly how he runs his defense and how to be successful at it. I think it'll be a very clean transition

I'm willing to give him a chance. But god **** these guys are young. Its the up and comer **** that really scares me.

thanks for this. great stuff

Seems like a hire that allows us to shift some of that DC money to an OC. I think what it says about Manny is he is willing to make business decisions. Manny just promoted a guy that didn't follow him to Miami over guys that did.

good point. and AFTER they were "co-promoted" by Right. Savagery.

I will say this Manny doing this shows he loves Patke and Banda but is all ij to dominate even if his boys have to take a step down and I respect that no moving slow **** do what you think is best for us

It's basically manny's defense, plain and simple...Interesting he thought that his two right hand-men...Bande/Patke weren't experienced enough for Richt's promotion, he basically went with a more experienced version of them.
Or he went with the better version of them.

He's worked with all three and only one has been deemed good enough to be a DC.

This is a grown *** man move.

So a guy gets his dream job and a couple of his boys are already in this position. It would be very difficult not to ride that out.

But Manny said, nope. I need more. This isn’t just me and my boys having fun running Miami together.

We will see but it’s a good sign.
