Bigger star in South Florida: Toney or Messi?

It's kind of hard to have a parade in Miami when the team is playing in Broward....I know...I know....Fins and Panthers also play in Broward, but those team's roots are from Miami.
I would say the old school Cubans definitely don't follow soccer, but the younger generation do follow, at least with the big ticket teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid.
No one really cares about MLS. It's about Messi.

Soccer is Ghey AF, and I am a Latino that played it as a kid. Feigning injuries makes it ghey, sorry fans!

That said, Messi by a country mile.
 
A lot of hyperbolic statements in this thread.

Here's the right answer. It's Messi and it's not close.

But, for the demographic that matters for the future of Hurricane football . . . my son is 11 and plays in sports leagues with other kids. Right now, amongst kids, Toney because of the immediacy of the Canes run.
 
I don't think Messi could be at a Miami Heat game without being mobbed by fans. And that's really how it is. Messi went food shopping once when he arrived and hasn't really been seen food shopping since. He's really uncomfortable with people recognizing him.

Love Malachi, but if Messi were in his spot, he'd have his own security guys watching everywhere on top of the security guys in the stadium.

We're underestimating his impact on the spanish-speaking community. He's a hero in Argentina. Before 2020? Different story, but now? No chance. If Messi was less recognized than Toney, he wouldn't have signed the contract that he has signed.

This is the first time I can recall D$ has said something I outright disagree with regarding Miami.

I don’t watch a lick of futbol/soccer but Messi is up there as one of the most famous people in the world.

South Florida is part of the world.
