Big update from Herald

The guards sprung me loose just in time.

Anyone supporting the hiring of an AD with zero experience, after 20 years athletic of humiliation, needs their head examined. Especially on the heels of a university press release extolling their newfound commitment to sports and push to focus on athletics, pounding their chest about their readiness to make splash hires and back up the truck for some heavy hitters.

Instead who do we get? Ex players who have no clue what they're doing. Zo, Toretta, any of these dudes would signify the absolute clown show hasn't ended in the circus is still raging on.

This monogloid idea that "soMeOne muSt GeT OuR CulTure" sounds like something said in between huffs of paint from a brown bag. What's our culture-- Losing? Getting blown out? Repeatedly making amateur hires? Not winning anything meaningful?

We should find someone who understands WINNING culture. Period. I don't care if they think Lil Havana is a rapper and can't speak a lick of Spanish, what's most important is proven success and experience, not some ties to the damned school or the city of Miami. Get someone who knows how to run a successful athletic department and hire quality coaches, and has a history of doing such.

Many on the BOT never learn and neither do our fans. We're going to continue down the path of two decades of mostly "Miami guy hires" with no regard for more important qualifications (ie EXPERIENCE) and keep stacking our losses wondering why it isn't working.

Can we get this on a billboard????

Have you listened to any podcasts or other things Gino has been on? He might not be in the athletic game directly but he's very passionate about football. He is a firm believer in that the QB defines the program, and you do whatever it takes to stack QB talent, he knows football more than you think. Yeah he's probably not an Urban Meyer x's and o's guy but that's not what we need, but he's a good man and a natural leader that loves FB.
I’m passionate about football too and I’ve run my company for 40 years but that doesn’t make me qualified to run an athletics dept.

At least Zo has been involved with football…

That Strawley line reads like it was put in there just to troll all of us. Sure she "could" assume a larger role. Just like I "could" assume a role in Adriana Lima's *** life. I cannot imagine any scenario where Highsmith gets the job and not only keeps her around, but gives her a larger role. It's too stupid to even bother getting worked up about*

* which means it will probably happen

All this is great with Zo but WTF is going to run the rest of the athletic dept. Are we just going to let them kind of run themselves.

I love the football program as much as the next guy but I also love the Baseball,Basketball and the rest of UM sports too…Putting Zo in charge of football is great but if this means putting Nunez or Strawley in charge of the rest of athletics fck that…

Why would Alonzo being in charge of football be great?

His qualifications: Miami bro, put on the cleats, NFL scout.

Real question is are they gonna continue to let the baseball and basketball programs waste away? They need to be purged as much as football.
Forget baseball, the only way there’s a purge there is if Strawley walks in on DiMare banging multiple co-Ed’s on her desk and the subsequent investigation turns up emails that make Gruden’s look like mother Theresa. Then maybe they will consider making a change.

How ******* stupid is our administration that thinks Miami is some daunting city that no outsider would ever be able to function in it. They're probably right though, we're so ******* stupid and full of ourselves down here that an outsider would be too busy laughing at how we purport to be a big time city but in reality we're just a vacation destination.

Unbelievable.

Can't say it any better then this.

this board has a disdain for women and it's weird TBH.

Find a woman who has a successful track record of running a P5 athletic program and hiring coaches who have made improvements to their respective programs and I think most would be on board...

The disdain comes from her association with Blake James, a dumpster fire program, and more concern with diversity and inclusion than building a championship contending program.

You don’t fire an AD this close to the early signing period without having a replacement on deck-at least smart administrations don’t? These people are not stupid, brother- you don’t achieve that level of success by being dumb. The problem with these motherfukkers is that they sincerely believe that (because of their level of achievement/status) the “common man “, I.e. the fan base, is an oft uneducated, low brow dummy. They are the decision makers, not because of qualification, but because of a super inflated sense of elitism. And that’s cool, but the problem with this ideological premise is that the results are left wanting. Their bullsh1t doesn’t and hasn’t worked? But because most of us (fans) are deemed as blue collar morons, we couldn’t possibly know better than they do? So they will be absolutely DAMNED if they follow the advise or suggestions from the likes of “you people”. That’s why it seems like they ALWAYS go against, what is obvious to us, the best available option.
The whole second part of this is 100% correct. Where you’re wrong is saying these people aren’t stupid. At least half (porbably 80%) of America’s “elites” are stupid. They rise to these positions bc of who they know or where they went to school. Have you seen our political establishment? 90% of the people who run this country are idiots, but you think people that run Universities aren’t?

I think it's safe to say that Alonzo & Blake James didn't see eye to eye. I doubt Zo or Gino would keep Strawley, who was Blake's #2.
