BIG TEN DONE

The whole “let’s play in the spring” thing is a fig leaf to appease fans. 1) although there may be less community transmission and/or even a limited vaccine, COVID and the risk of liability won’t be gone; 2) the NFL is top dog and won’t move their draft because of the B10; and 3) it’s not gonna be feasible to play both in the spring and fall of ‘21.

Let’s call it what it is - no 2020 season for these players/teams/conferences.
Herbie just brought up a good point on ESPN.
He is wondering what these players are going to do come September, October,November, December, January, February, etc.
These players are conditioned to play this fall. Now they are going to have to wait a bunch of months to play? Good luck with that.

And I would like to add...
...In the Midwest where temperatures can still hit below zero in the Spring?

The Football product on the field is going to be gawd awful if they play in the Spring. If they cancel the season it will probably be for good.

Exactly there will only be freshman and sophomores on those rosters everyone else will declare.
Let's say you're an incoming freshman - a four star or five star player at a PAC-12 or Big 10 school. You're either redshirting or more hopefully playing this fall under normal circumstances. It's a disservice to yourself to let your skills erode for two years with the hope that maybe your school resumes football in 2022. Under normal circumstances, that would be your third year and you'd be making your NFL case. But now, you're just starting to hit the field.

These players can't and shouldn't stay at a PAC-12 or Big 10 school. Maybe the players without NFL aspirations, but the blue chippers will leave in mass. The PAC-12 and Big 10 are giving themselves the death penalty.

Difference here is a nation MUST have a President, sports is entertainment and not necessary so I don’t think this comparison applies here. But see what you’re trying to imply here
I hear you. But the question I was responding to was if the Big12, SEC and ACC play, would the national championship be recognized if the Big 10 and Pac 12 choose not to participate. There's no mandate that the national championship must include Big 10 and PAC12.

That seems odd typing that since the current system seems to imply that Notre Dame must be included.

Let's presume that the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 proceed and get a modicum of a 2020 season completed. Meanwhile PAC-12 and Big 10 say "maybe spring", but their medical experts remain unencouraged about the prospect of a spring season either.

At some point people will begin to ask, "Are you encouraged about a 2021 season?". If the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 play and there is a lack of confidence that the PAC-12 and Big 10 will play in 2021, you could see a mammoth wave of transfers to the schools that still play. Everyone school that still plays could see their roster bolstered.

And for each conference that skipped playing in 2020 and 2021...should any of these schools elect to restart their football programs in 2022 or later, it will be like SMU restarting their football team in 1989. There's nothing left, and you're relaunching with 25 scholarship players and the rest walkons. You're talking about the better part of a decade to get a USC, Washington, or Michigan back up and running to where they once were.
Ohhhh it wouldn't be a "could see" situation if any conference (or conferences) are out on an island about being non-committal on a 2021 season. It would 100% be a MASS exodus in terms of transfers and recruiting classes.
