Big Game tonight!!

So did this thread go from routing for UNC to lose a conference game to a "Lets go UNC" to help strength of schedule?? I think it did for me :6fps6:

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Wake won. UNC has had some very good fortune to win those games. I don't think you can count on a turnover and virtually penalty free game, like the Miami game, each week. It took that and Miami missing two kicks and one being blocked to pull it out. Throw in a Freshman QB...and as my grandfather used to say, they've got a lucky horse-shoe up their ***.

Agreed. Not dialing up the excuse-meter but all the metrics of the Miami/UNC game point to Miami winning that game. Better success rate, higher efficiency, better field position and more scoring chances. Not sure how many times the ball can bounce one way for UNC over the course of a whole season.

It really shouldn't be allowed. What's to stop FSU or us (during years we both might be good) from just scheduling a conference patsy as an addl game and then deeming our matchup as a non-conference game?

They maybe in the Atlantic side but if they lose it accounts against them in the ACC just like FSU or Clemson would count against us if we loss.

No it doesn't.

This is a non-conference game and is being considered as such because UNC and Wake chose to schedule it, not the ACC.

He's right, they already had their allotment of conference games and couldn't find anyone else to put on the schedule, so they agreed to play each other as a non-conference game
So this is a special exemption .... smells fishy like the Pats ending up with AB. How can they allow a ACC conference team win or loss not count towards a division race, and only applicable to two teams and not the others? smh

Yds/Play often determines a winner and that stat was even at 6.4
We had 7 penalties they had 1
Their QB had a higher rating than ours 190 to 160
UNC also had the lone play of +50 yds (Big plays win games)
Their FG kicker sucked less than ours

Not saying your wrong but not all the metrics were in our favor.

Everyone on on this site would be complaining if UNC had scheduled North Carolina Southern Tech A&M this week soooo..............................shut up.

Because this is a non-conference game, we need to be rooting for Wake. It makes us look better if NC ends up having a good season.

For real? What the **** kind of crap is that? How is that even allowed?

I swear if by some strange sequence of events UNC loses this game...and we end up with a tied record with them at the end of the year and they go the the ACCCG...that would be seriously ****ed up.
Expect some serious BS if this continues.

You're correct. I should have been more specific. I meant the metrics used by ESPN's SP+ (used to be football outsider's S&P+) which measures efficiency and is what's used to predict outcomes at different stages of the game. YPP isn't always indicative of efficiency because it can get warped by or two big plays. Things like penalty differential and missed field goals often get left out of these equations which is why UNC won even though the numbers mostly said otherwise.
