All the Big12 schools are going to go independent and then milk the Pac12?

Miami doesn't have NBC contract (ND) or LDS (BYU) $$$$$ support.Rather just got independent at that point

They could but what revenue stream replaces lost ACC ducats?
No independent school is going to survive this at the end. Even Notre Dame had to hide under the ACC skirt during the pandemic.Rather just got independent at that point
Not that easy to make your own schedule of high-profile teams in the current system, where teams play only 2 or 3 OOC games and don’t want to waste more than one of them on a big name.We did well in football as an independent.
We did well in the Big East.
Notre Dame did well as an independent.
When independent - you get to choose your opponents without conference considerations - and you don't have to share what you make with weak conference teams.
On the other hand, if you suck at football, but you're in a big conference - you get more money than you deserve. And we've sucked for a while.
We’re an even worse fit for the big ten than the sec if you ask me. Imagine the traveling we’d be doing also. And the cold weather would suck

Good points. It’s a **** show all aroundMiami doesn't have NBC contract (ND) or LDS (BYU) $$$$$ support.

I swear to God I did an exhaustive post on this 2 or 3 years ago and the results were like 50/50.I'd rather be part of an expanding AAC than than the ACC without FSU/Clemson. Do we need to grovel to join one of the other existing major conferences to be relevant? Being part of the Big East (a conference with Temple) didn't stop us from becoming national Champs.
If the AAC really wants to "conference like a boss" and signs exclusive rights with Amazon or Netflix, I think Miami would be wise to join. Imagine every time you went to the Amazon site to buy something, the site was filled with ads for an upcoming Miami game and anyone around the world could watch it on Prime. No need to buy special acc packages on cable or pay $25 for Disney/ESPN Ultra Plus Elite to watch the Canes on espn8.
Oh btw here is an interesting read on conference merger mania from the good ol' days

U of Miami Joins the Big East Conference
The University of Miami joined the Big East Conference today in an alliance that Commissioner Mike Tranghese said would save the conference.www.latimes.com

Meghan Mullen wants to veto FSU over Candy Fisher.FSU doesn't bring anything to the SEC. Clempson and UM are the pearls.
Agreed. I’ve said all along logistics MUST be a consideration. Culture fit as well. East of the MS river and south of the Mason-Dixon Line - for the most part. NE coast teams can be a factor - PItt, BC, Maryland for example. There’s absolutely No way we fit w/ B1G. There’s literally nothing about the travel scheme or the cultural fit there. I would rather join the AAC and turn it into the quasi Big East again, than to join the B1G. We would be in a big conference for name sake only.
I think the expanded playoffs alleviate some of the concerns with independence. You could also have a group of quasi independent schools that go in with netflix or Amazon. Football is king. Amazon is paying 1 Billion a year just to show Thurs night games. I think Amazon would pay a lot for exclusive rights to show games for
Miami
BYU
Army*
Navy*
Air Force* (service academies have a national audience)
Liberty
USC
TCU
Baylor
You would have LA, Miami, and Texas markets.
Amazon could also try to work something out with Notre Dame, which wants to stay independent. Everyone thinks NDs NBC deal is some bajillion dollar megadeal that fills up NDs bank account. It's actually only 15 million per year. Between its NBC deal and ACC pro rata share, ND actually makes 7 million dollars LESS than a full member of the acc.
I agree except for if the schools vote to dissolve the conference. If enough acc teams get invitations extended by other conferences, I don't think they need a unanimous vote to dissolve the conference (I believe 12 of 15 have to vote aye). If the conference is gone, then so is the GOR. Quite a few acc teams are a natural fit with the Big10. Then you have FSU and Clemson for the SEC. Already more than halfway there. I wouldn't put it past the SEC to make a run at a couple of other ACC schools like UVA or UNC (would immediately give them academic credentials ) in order to get the number of acc schools with invitations to 12 in order to kill the acc.
We can’t leave, it would cost almost 200 million to leave the acc after 21 seasonI swear to God I did an exhaustive post on this 2 or 3 years ago and the results were like 50/50.
I focused most on the size of the media markets and it’s a no brainer.
You get a couple of other big market teams to leave with us and have a major city type conference. Cha Ching$

Doubt we could make a legit schedule of 4-5 big names to compensate for having to play a steady diet of lesser schools.
It was easy to do that when we were up-and-comers; harder to do when we’re a known commodity.
And im sure alot of sec teams don't want fsu in there confidence.FSU doesn't bring anything to the SEC. Clempson and UM are the pearls.
Conferences are bigger than before. Scheduling OOC games isn’t as easy as it uses to be. Now with the playoffs potentially expanding, it will make teams even more selective or less selective on who they play OOC. If you are in a super conference, you will need to go through a gauntlet and the playoffs to win it all. Now reason to schedule an ND or Miami. We sure didn't have a problem previously!
It may be a failing memory - but I recall Schnellenberger taking the UM team on the road. We played all over the nation - and by being exposed to many different defenses and many different offenses - we learned a lot - got really flexible - really experienced in meeting whatever came along.
And it took a few years - but I'll never forget the night we played the mighty Nebraska that had run up all kinds of numbers against everyone they played against - just overpowering everyone.
Until us. (Everyone said we didn't have a dog's chance.)
Not saying we should go Independent. But we'd be a very popular team to schedule. IF - we're winning. IF - we're a good football team.
We'd pack stadiums. We'd be impossible to ignore.
So? We dominate a lesser Conference - and show up for the playoffs with great regularity. The more different teams we compete against - the better able to advance though the playoffs - as they play with different emphasis and mindsets.
Fun to think about . . . Renegades once again! And recruits have a desire to be football renegades!
