BEST pocket passer at the U....

Kosar is tough to describe. Probably the dorkiest, least physically talented dude to ever QB here. He was as athletic as a bag of hammers. However, I wouldn't choose anyone else to lead a UM team into battle as a QB. Loved him.

Subsequent to that George Mira had great mobility, he was a terrific scrambler, but he was basically a drop back passer. He sometimes ran an option but that was more of a change-of-pace to keep defenses off balance. It was not our bread-and-butter like it was with Curci and Johns. Our offenses before that were basically option, we ran the "belly" series, sometimes called the Miami "drive" series.

Many on here think we had no history but some of those early and mid-50's teams were regarded as national powerhouses.

That give's me 40 years of history before your comment starts busting my balls. Then you cite 1950's teams. You cited Fran Curci who crossed 500yds passing once in his career (1068 passing 260 rushing 1959). I'm impressed that you were able to pull these off-the-wall guys off your list, however you criticized me pointing out that most of our passes have been pocket passers (since mostly the 50's [Eddie was a 60's era player who had 600 career passing yds]).

Do you actually have a legit point or are you just trying to be a **** pulling hardly relevant facts you expect no one will look up to make you seem "smart" and "informed" to the relevant question at hand?

To be clear I'm not sure if I should say Bernie or Dorsey. Vinny will forever be off my list due to the fiesta bowl.
 
For an arm I’d take Vinny. For a game, Bernie. But then again I’d also take Dorsey and/or Kelly. All 4 were revered QB’s at then QB U. My have the mighty fallen, it’s been a hot minute since we’ve had a decently great passer. Not saying Williams, Perry, or Tate are the second coming but we haven’t had this much talent at the QB position in a long time. Here’s hoping we get to add one of them to the list by the time their careers at Miami are finished.

Agree. It's really hard to describe, you just had to be there to watch him play in 83 and 84 to understand.

He had a ton of talent to work with and was almost never hit, but as a passer - he was surgical, precise, and had amazing anticipation. He didn't have the biggest arm, of course, but this thread isn't about which Miami QB had the biggest arm.

Best pure pocket passer = Dorsey

Yeah, everyone forgets Erickson. But I still maintain that (coach) Erickson's offense was best realized with (player) Erickson under center. That is when you saw that offense's true potential.

Not really...Torretta's 91 UM team...was better than Craigs 89 UM team...both Offensively and Defensively....91 NC team shutout (their 1st in 60yrs) a good Nebraska team 22-0 (should've been 36-0 if not for 2 TD nullifying plays) 89 Team had fits with Bama...and we benefited with 2 HUGE fumbles (that went our way) that would've been overturned today....The 91 Offense was the Erickson Off that truly defined his Scheme.

Yeah, but who are we kidding here? Against any team with a pulse, it was the ‘91 DEFENSE that made the real difference. How many points did that true Erickson offense with Gino put up against the FSUs and Penn States, etc?

Enough to Beat them....(those FSU teams were Savage) the 89 team lost too FSU....The 89 UM Defense was no sloutch...
But the 91 Offense and Defense were both better than the 89 Off & Def....

Absolutely right. 81 we probably would have won the NC if we had just a little better RBs and WRs. We were 11 points away from undefeated and got ripped off by the good old boys at TX and MSU.

Kelly had Roan and Hobbs running the ball and Brodsky, Rodrigue and Rush to throw to. Dennison came in 81 and led the team in receptions from the TE position, Kelly's last year.

None of these guys were fast even for that era.

Maybe so, I haven't looked up the stats to compare. Even the 22-0 Orange Bowl win over Nebraska was all about defense. The offense was all about power back Larry Jones toting the rock. It just seems like in the Erickson era the offense put up huge numbers against weaker competition, but in the big games vs good teams, the offensive production was low and the defense is what got the job done.

Nah...we had 2 TDs called back on bogus calls...I was there...should have been 36-0...the Offense was wayyy more than Larry Jones, you had..Kevin Williams...Lamar Thomas...Randall Hill...Copeland...etc...
 
Testeverdes NFL Stats are better than any UM QB including Kelly....and Testerverde has a SB Ring (backup) with the Cowboys....

Gino was 19 of 41 for 257 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs on the day. Maybe the 2 calls you mention would make that look a lot better. But that doesn't scream "high flying passing offense" to me. Meanwhile, Miami outgained the vaunted Nebraska run game 182 yards to 82 yards. Larry Jones was MVP.

Testeverde had 46,000 Passing yds too Kellys 35,000....Vinnie had 275 TDs...too Kellys 235...Kelly went to a much better organization than Vinnie did...In 96 Vinnie took the Jets to the AFC Championship Game...

Both Bad calls were on 2TDs passes...
