BEST pocket passer at the U....

Kelly and Testaverde are what you look for when you go into the lab and say, “Build me a QB.”

Guys who excelled as pure pocket passers with a clean pocket?

Kosar
Walsh
Dorsey

Give them a clean pocket and they could surgically take apart a defense.

It’s Kosar or Kelly. I could see why people would say Vinny, but any other answer makes zero sense to me.

Kosar was a great QB but I wonder if he could make some of the throws Vinny could make.

He was less prone to mistakes than Vinny, obviously. Vinny's last game was a disaster.

I remember watching him. He could make the throws. You never understood exactly how he was making the throws, as sometimes he had a bit of a wonky throwing motion - but he was very accurate to all parts of the field, and had great timing with his receivers.

He couldn't make the Throws Vinnie made....Had a unorthodox throwing Motion...but Vinnie made throws that had you shaking your head. Switzer said he's the Best CFB QB he ever faced...and he faced a Bunch...

Just remembering how good the QB play was in this city in 1983-84. I can't believe I got to see Bernie on Saturday followed by most of Marino's best games on Sunday. The days when watching both the Canes and Dolphins offenses was fun.......they basically ran the exact same offense, too.

this is my take as well. Walsh has always been my guy but Kosar and Walsh were the best in terms of pocket presence and comfort level. Neither was going to run so they were forced to be comfortable within a pocket

Man, Walsh getting no respect here. I'm partial to him because he was the QB when I went to my first UM game when I was a kid. I know he had a noodle arm but he was precise and rarely threw a pick.

#9 proved to be the best of the bunch

Jim Kelly over Testaverde by a nose.

It would be a slam dunk for Kelly if he had better WR to throw to (and better RBs to take the pressure off the passing game).

Vinny T had the athletic tools to be one of the best monster QB's of all time. His mental game in college, and in the pros, was always suspect.

If we look at total body of work (college/pros), then Jim Kelly, no question.

I like Kosar, and glad guys mentioned Ericson, Dorsey, and Gino, (His brother Geoff was no joke either).

But for my money, in college, I like Walsh. I maintain that he was a smarter version of Dorsey, and made fewer mistakes with the ball in his hands.
