I can't remember who we were playing (GT? Colorado?), but it was at the Orange Bowl sometime after 2003. One of our players intercepted a pass and started returning it to the end zone, the QB gave chase and one of our other defensive players just absolutely destroyed him on a block. Under the rules at the time, it was a legal block, but the refs flew a flag anyway (likely b/c of how brutal it looked and that it was their QB).

QB was Joel Klatt which is why he still has nothing good to say about us as a talking head on Fox Sports.

Vilma on that cornfed Nebraska TE in the Rose Bowl for honorable mention.

This is the hit I would probably be voting for. Big game, big hit, big turnover. Love it.

If you care about the moment/context, my all-time favorite UM hit might be the hit put on the Texas return man on the opening kickoff of the 1991 Cotton Bowl. Dude got laid out and left the field. Then we went on to completely and utterly destroy Texas for another 59:45. Over 200 yards in penalties. Zero fvcks given. Just wild.

Also, the very underrated combo of Sharpton+Phillips in our last win against Clem$on is a personal favorite (but would be hyper-flagged today):
