Benkert

Not a bad QB playing the game of his life and we beat him by 16. He was a nice proof to the fact that the other team doesn't matter. Only Miami matters. We play Cane football, we win, period!!!

The only game I watched UVA play was Boise. He looked pretty good.
That being said, the team QBR for UVA was about 95th in the nation.
All I was saying at halftime was that the law of averages HAS to catch up with this kid.

He has been a good QB (top 4 in the ACC along with Rosier, Jackson , and Cuse QB) but yesterday in the first 2 1/2 Quarters he was off the chain . He had 3 td throws which were as good as any I have seen in college all year. You just gotta give it up to him. Like I said that is the reason of all the playoffs teams Oklahoma would give us the most trouble.

Say what you want that kid was throwing dimes all over the field. Stood in the pocket and took some abuse and still made throws. Eventually talent won out but that kid kept them in that game.

Yes. Rewatched the game last night to be sure. Many of his throws were against very tight coverage and he dropped it on a dime. Repeatedly. The announcers saw it too. He'll be playing on Sundays, the kid can throw and has decent mobility.
Luckily he doesn't play for Alabama or Clemson.:peaceful:

The guy was in the zone... Every dog has its day... the guy kept scrambling and either tossing it up or throwing it short to receivers that somehow were open every play and ready to juke our DBs... Once we decided to contain him and took away his scrambling ability, his numbers went down significantly.

Unfortunately he will end up playing for Bill Belichick.

Just a hunch.

"Benkert went 17-of-18 for 262 yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter. Then he threw a fourth touchdown pass in the third quarter to give Virginia a 28-14 lead. All of those touchdown passes came outside the pocket, the most in a game by a Power 5 quarterback this season.

So that is why Miami had to try something different on defense. As soon as the Hurricanes began closing up the pocket and taking away opportunities for rollouts, everything changed. Benkert threw for 96 yards the rest of the game. Four of Miami's five total sacks came after that interception."

Kid sold his soul at the crossroads. I swear I thought he was going to start banking completions off the crossbar just because he could. Frustrating for a D lineman to chase a guy all over the place and have him during perfect strikes downfield every attempt.

Good quarterback, but he should not have looked like the next coming of Tom Brady. I mean for fvcks sake...the dude looked like Jesus out there. The soft zone and lack of pressure, though, in the first half, certainly didn't help our case.

It was the lack of pressure in the first half that allowed him to sit in the pocket and pick us apart. His OL should get a lot of credit for that. I was surprised that our DL wasn't getting more penetration in the first half (holding did a play a part in that). Benkert played well in almost all of the film I watched. He destroyed #25 BSU (now 9-2) in their house & UVA won by around 20 points (which is why I was saying this could be a trap game & it certainly looked that way deep into the game). He's simply a very good passer when he has a clean pocket to work in.

First drive of the game, this kid threw a slant to the guy Young was matched up on. It was 3rd and 8 and they picked up the 1st down. I️ knew right then he was a gamer, but some of the throws that followed were absolutely lights out.

Told you guys before the game he’s a good QB and one of those streaky rally the troops types who can get white hot at times. And that’s exactly what he was on Saturday.

He’s been pretty good all year and has had some streaks where he looks invincible. He’s one of the main reasons they went from 2 wins last year to a bowl game this year.

This. Credit where due — he was genuinely flawless in the first half but we made it easier for him by sitting in soft zone coverage. The game changed once we adjusted and started applying pressure in the 2nd half.

It’s so refreshing to have a staff that makes actual halftime adjustments

I don't agree that it was lack of pressure that led to his 1st half explosion.

It was the scheme that didn't allow our DL any time to get upfield. Go watch the tape.

60 percent passer with a 130 QBR. 25 TD's to 8 INT's. 2850'ish yards on the season. Seems like pretty darn good numbers to me. Best half of football for him this season and Young was beat like a drum.
